遠藤航がプレミアリーグのベストイレブンに選出

12日、プレミアリーグは第28節のベストイレブンを発表。マンチェスター・シティ戦で出色のパフォーマンスを見せたリバプールの日本代表MF遠藤航も選出された。

元イングランド代表FWでプレミアリーグ最多得点記録を持つアラン・シアラー氏が選出する週間ベストイレブン。過去にはブライトン&ホーヴ・アルビオンの日本代表MF三笘薫も何度も選出されていた。

第28節のベストイレブンが発表され、リバプールからは遠藤とオランダ代表DFヴィルヒル・ファン・ダイクが選出されていた。

シアラー氏は遠藤の選出理由について「リバプールが中盤で繰り返しボールを奪い返し、マンチェスター・シティを相手に長い時間守備を保つ上で、彼は重要な人物だった」とし、中盤の守備での貢献を称えた。

ファン・サポーターが選ぶプレーヤー・オブ・ザ・マッチにも選ばれていた遠藤。加入時は年齢とパフォーマンスに多くの批判が殺到し、ユルゲン・クロップ監督の決断にも理解が示されなかったが、自らのパフォーマンスで一気に評価を上げ、今となっては絶賛されるにまで至っている。

クロップ監督のドルトムント復帰報道も…ドイツでは否定的な見解「戻ることはない」
