アメリカ女子代表FWマロリー・スワンソン(旧姓ピュー:24)がワールドカップを断念せざるを得なくなった。これまで歴代最多4回、2015年、2019年と連覇もしている絶対女王アメリカはアレックス・モーガンらが現在も最前線で活躍をするなどしているが、2021年の東京オリンピックでは3位にとどまるなど、世代交代の難しさにも直面している。

7月に開幕を迎えるオーストラリア&ニュージーランド女子ワールドカップ(W杯)へ向けて各国が準備を進める中、アメリカは8日にアイルランド女子代表との国際親善試合を行った。
この試合ではエミリー フォックスが代表初ゴールを決め、ジュリー・アーツが出産後611日にぶりに代表復帰するという明るいニュースも飛び込んできた。一方、2月のSheBelieves Cupのなでしこジャパン戦でもゴールを決め、代表6試合連続得点中だったスワンソンの長期離脱というネガティブな話題も上ることとなった。

前半終了間際、スワンソンはハードタックルを受けて左ヒザを負傷。ストレッチャーでピッチを後にすることとなった。診断の結果は左ヒザ膝蓋腱断裂で、全治は明らかにされていないものの、W杯は絶望的となった。
ただ、スワンソンは担架に固定されながらも、気丈にも会場の声援に応えて拍手。観衆はそんなスワンソンに敬意を表し、スタンディングオベーションで彼女の退場を見送った。閲覧者からも「胸が張り裂けそう」「迅速な回復を願って」「莫大な損失」「私たちの愛とポジティブなエネルギーをマルに送ります!」と、愛のある言葉が多数届けられている。

アメリカの選手に限らず、先月にはカナダ女子代表のジャニン・ベッキーが右ヒザ前十字じん帯断裂の重傷を負い、W杯欠場が決定的に。近年は女子選手の大ケガが増加しているだけに、本大会へ向けてのコンディション調整も注視する必要があるだろう。

なでしこジャパン勢ら4名も追加!EAが『FIFA23』内NWSL選手のレーティングを公開、日本女子トップは?

代表200試合越えの米女子代表モーガン、記念スパイク着用で試合後インタビューには娘と登場

1位に輝いたのは、アストン・ビラでプレーするスイス女子代表のアリーシャ・レーマン。世界一セクシーなアスリートとしても知られ、インスタグラムのフォロワーは1340万人。元プロテニスプレーヤーのロジャー・フェデラーを超え、インスタグラムで最も人気のあるスイス人アスリートとなっている。 女子選手の意見を参考に配慮し白パンツを中止、ナイキが女子W杯出場13カ国の新ユニフォームを発表!

「涙が出た」「とても美しい瞬間」悲しみに暮れるイラン選手をアメリカ代表DFが抱擁「これが国際スポーツの意義」
