アメリカサッカー連盟(USSF)は26日、パリ・オリンピックに臨むアメリカ女子代表メンバーを発表した。8大会連続8度目の出場を果たすアメリカ。これまで4度の金メダルを獲得。前回の東京オリンピックでは銅メダルを獲得していた。
昨シーズンまでチェルシーの女子チームを指揮していたエマ・ヘイズ監督が就任したアメリカ。東京オリンピック経験者8名、2023年の女子ワールドカップ(W杯)経験者10名が選ばれ、4名が世界大会に初選出。予備メンバー4名も発表された。
その中で大きな話題となったのが、アメリカ女子代表のアイコン的存在であり、長らくエースとしてプレーしたFWアレックス・モーガンの選外だった。
34歳になるモーガンは、2008年の北京オリンピックで初めて出場すると、2012年のロンドン、2016年のリオ・デ・ジャネイロ、2021年の東京と4大会連続で出場。ロンドン五輪では金メダルを獲得していた。
モーガンは自身のインスタグラムを更新。メンバー外となったことへの心境を綴った。

ヘイズ監督は今回のメンバー選考について言及。難しい判断だったとしながらも、新たな道を歩むために別の選手を選んだとした。
「私は最後のキャンプで一度だけ彼女と仕事をする機会があったが、彼女の資質だけでなく、プロ意識も直接見てきたし、彼女が残した記録がそれを物語っている」
「18人の選手のうち、フィールドプレーヤーが16人、GKが2人しかいない状況で決断を下すのは簡単ではない。もちろん、難しい決断だった」
「特にアレックスのこのチームでの経歴や実績を考えるとだ。ただ、私は別の方向に進みたいと思い、他の選手を選んだ」

史上初、バルセロナ主将のプテジャスが女子バロンドールを連覇! 64ゴールに絡む大活躍

新生なでしこジャパンが臨む「2025 SheBelieves Cup」の全3試合を『ABEMA』で無料生中継!元なでしこFW岩渕真奈が解説…NHKはコロンビア戦を生中継、2試合は録画放送

なでしことも対戦するアメリカ女子代表メンバーが発表! 4名が初招集、史上3組目の姉妹での招集も【2025 SheBelieves Cup】
