ラ・リーガで22年ぶりにイングランド人対決が実現した。
イギリス『サン』によると、ラ・リーガの舞台でイングランド人対決が実現するのは22年ぶりとのこと。前回は2002年2月のマドリーvsラス・パルマスで、この時はマドリー側に“名手”スティーブ・マクマナマン氏、ラス・パルマス側にヴィンセント・サムウェイズ氏が出場していたという。
歴史を振り返ってもイングランド人が少ないラ・リーガ。
また、マイケル・オーウェン氏とジョナサン・ウッドゲイド氏が2004年夏にマドリーへ移籍も、前者はそれなりに奮闘しながらも1年で退団、後者は「史上最悪の契約」と呼ばれるほど活躍できなかった。

相手が恐れる右手…ストライカーの完成形と呼ばれた男、アラン・シアラー
