元イングランド代表MFデイビッド・ベッカム氏(47)が息子相手に張り合っている。
ベッカム氏は1999年にヴィクトリアさんと結婚。2人の間には長男のブルックリン、次男のロメオ、三男のクルスと長女のパーハー・セブンさんが誕生している。
三男のクルスは17歳になっているが、15日にインスタグラムを更新。「背が高いのは?」のコメントを添えて、父との2ショットを投稿した。
笑顔を見せる2人だが、その足元をみるとどちらも思い切り背伸び。ベッカム氏もまだまだ息子には負けられないと言わんばかりだ。
写真ではベッカム氏の方が高いように見えるが、ベッカム氏自身も「俺だな」とこの投稿に自信満々にコメントしている。
ベッカム氏の身長は180cm～182cmと言われており、クルスは170cm台後半といったところだろうか。
微笑ましいやり取りにファンからは「お父さんの方が高い」、「二人とも高いよ」といった言葉が寄せられたが、クルスが着ていた洋服にも注目が。ヴィクトリアさんもメンバーだった「スパイス・ガールズ」のTシャツを着ており、「このTシャツが好きだ」といった反応も多い。
ちなみに、ベッカム氏が共同オーナーを務めるインテル・マイアミのリザーブチームでプレーしている次男のロメオは185cmとさらに高身長だ。

元ブラジル代表FWのロナウド氏が2002年の日韓・ワールドカップ(W杯)で見せた“大五郎カット”について謝罪した。アメリカ『スポーツ・イラストレイテッド』が伝えている。
日韓W杯では、ロナウド、ロナウジーニョ、リバウドの“3R”を擁したブラジルが7戦全勝で世界一の栄冠をつかんだ。その中でもロナウドは決勝のドイツ戦で2得点を決めるなど、8得点を挙げ得点王に輝いた。
当時その“怪物”ぶりとともに日本を沸かせたのが、スキンヘッドのように見えながらもおでこの上の部分だけを残した“大五郎カット”と呼ばれる斬新すぎる髪型だった。
あれから19年が経とうとしている今、ロナウド氏は“大五郎カット”に言及。自らもあの髪型は酷かったと思い返している。
「ひどかったね。真似て散髪した子供たちのすべての母親に謝罪するよ」
だが、奇抜な髪型には理由もあったという。
トルコとの準決勝の前に脚の筋肉を負傷したロナウドは、母国メディアとケガの話をしないよう別の話題を作ろうと思い、「それで髪の毛を切った」と明かしている。
「チームメイトに『良くない?』と尋ねたら、『ノー!ひどいよ!前髪を切った方がいいよ』と言われたんだ。でも、記者たちは私の髪型を見て、ケガのことを忘れていたさ」
“大五郎カット”を真似する人は多くなかったと思われるが、日韓W杯では当時イングランド代表として来日したデイビッド・ベッカム氏の“ソフトモヒカン”が日本で大流行。イングランド代表は準々決勝でブラジル代表に敗れていたが、髪型ではベッカムに軍配があがっていた。

EFLリーグ2(イングランド4部)に所属するサルフォード・シティは8日、かつてマンチェスター・ユナイテッドやイングランド代表で活躍したデイビッド・ベッカム氏とギャリー・ネビル氏が率いるコンソーシアムに買収されたことを発表した。
マンチェスターのサルフォードに拠点を置くサルフォード・シティは、マンチェスター・ユナイテッドで活躍し92年組として知られるライアン・ギグス氏、ポール・スコールズ氏、ニッキー・バット氏、フィリップ・ネビル氏が2014年にオーナーとなり、5シーズンで4回の昇格を経験した。
2018-19シーズンにEFLリーグ2に昇格を果たしたが、そこから上には上がれておらず。今シーズンもEFLリーグ2で8位となり、昇格プレーオフを最終節で逃す形となっていた。
そんな中、ベッカム氏、ギャリー・ネビル氏に加え、アメリカ在住の実業家のデクラン・ケリー氏、マーヴィン・デイヴィス卿がグループに入っている。
サルフォード・シティによれば、新たな株主たちはクラブと施設に多額の投資を行うという約束が入っているとのことだ。
なお、ギグス氏、スコールズ氏、バット氏、フィル・ネビル氏は引き続き「テクニカル、フットボール、コマーシャル、リクルート、SCFC財団」の各部門でクラブに関与していくとのこと。92年組が勢揃いすることとなった。
また、新しいコンソーシアムは、インドを拠点とするドリーム・スポーツ・グループ、コリン・ライアン、フランク・ライアン、ニック・ウッドハウス、シュラビン・ミッタルを含む9人の株主で構成されている。
ベッカム氏は「私はサルフォードで育った。そこで過ごした日々には、本当に素敵な思い出がある。この場所と人々は、私のサッカー人生の初期において、とても重要な役割を果たしてくれた。サルフォード・シティは地域社会の中心であり、豊かな歴史を誇る。その新たな章に加わることができ、大変嬉しく思う」とコメントしている。
ギャリー・ネビル氏も「サルフォード・シティに情熱を注いでいる。多様な才能と専門知識を持つメンバーが、サッカーへの愛で結ばれた、他に類を見ないパートナーシップだ。サッカーが最優先だが、今後4～5年でクラブを持続可能な方向へ導くことが不可欠だ。この旅の次の段階が待ちきれない」と、かつての仲間とともにチームを発展させていくことを誓った。

イルハン・マンスズの名を覚えているだろうか。
今から20年前の2002年に日韓ワールドカップが開催。国中がサッカーに沸いた中、その中でもひと際注目を集めたのが、当時イングランド代表だったデイビッド・ベッカム氏だ。日本では“ベッカム・フィーバー”が巻き起こり、その髪型を模したモヒカンヘアーも流行った。
そして、もう1人“イケメン”として脚光を浴びたのがトルコ代表だったイルハンだ。
「イルハン王子」の愛称で女性を中心にファンを獲得し、テレビや雑誌でも特集がなされた。長髪をなびかせながら頭の上で髪の毛をとめるちょんまげスタイルにクシャっとした笑顔は多くの人のハートを撃ち抜いた。
ピッチの上でも、控えという立場ながら全7試合に出場すると、チーム最多の3得点をマーク。トルコの史上初の3位という結果に大きく貢献している。
そのイルハンは大会後の2004年にヴィッセル神戸へと加入。Jリーグでは負傷の影響もありほとんど出場機会もないまま、最終的には無断帰国という形での退団となったが、その意味でも記憶に残っている人はいるのではないだろうか。
現役引退後にはフィギュアスケーターへの転身も明らかになったイルハン。46歳になったイルハンのSNSを覗くとすっかり“イケオジ”になったようだ。
トルコ代表の公式SNSや現地のメディアなどは22日、「今から20年前、イルハンのゴールで代表が準決勝に進出」と当時を振り返っており、現地では、代表チームを史上初のW杯3位に導いた英雄として認識されているようだ。

元イングランド代表MFデイビッド・ベッカム氏の次男、ロメオ・ベッカム(22)が新たなキャリアを歩むようだ。イギリス『サン』が報じた。
以前は父親が共同オーナーを務めるインテル・マイアミでプレーしていたロメオ・ベッカム。2023年1月にブレントフォードのBチームへレンタル加入すると、同年6月には完全移籍に切り替えた。
今年6月にはブレントフォードが新契約を提示したようだが、サインは交わさず退団。スパイクを脱ぎ、ファッションの道に専念することを決意したという。
そんなロメオはパリのトップファッションエージェントと契約し、大手ブランドとの仕事に目を向けているとのこと。今後は元スパイス・ガールズでファッションデザイナーの母、ヴィクトリア・ベッカムさんの足跡を辿るようだ。
なお、ロメオがサッカーから退いたのはこれが初めてではなく、アーセナルユースを退団した2015年以降はテニスに挑戦。今回で2度目の引退となり、父親とは違う形での成功が期待される。
