26日、2026北中米ワールドカップ(W杯)アジア2次予選グループC第4節のタイ代表vs韓国代表が行われ、アウェイの韓国が0-3で勝利した。

準決勝敗退となったアジアカップ2023後にユルゲン・クリンスマン監督を解任し、ファン・ソンホン新体制で臨んでいる韓国。タイとの連戦となった中、新体制初戦となった試合は1-1の引き分けに終わっていたが、快勝での新体制初白星となった。

中でもファンを喜ばせることとなったのは、54分に生まれた2点目。ボックス左角でイ・ガンインからパスを受けたソン・フンミンが縦に仕掛けてニア下を狙った左足シュートを放つと、GKに触られたものの、そのままゴールネットに吸い込まれていた。

アジアカップ中に衝突した2人。口論からもみ合いとなったところでキャプテンのソン・フンミンが負傷するという事態になっていたが、その後イ・ガンインが謝罪し、2人とも今回の代表メンバーに選ばれていた。
