韓国代表の新指揮官候補に、イラク代表を率いるヘスス・カサス・ガルシア監督(50)が浮上だ。
アジア杯2023で日本代表を撃破したイラク代表。チームを率いるのは、2022年11月就任のスペイン人指揮官、ヘスス・カサス監督だ。
過去にバルセロナの分析官やスペイン代表のアシスタントコーチを務めた経験も持つ同監督。イラク代表との契約は2026年末まで残すが、韓国『スポーツ・ソウル』によると、現在正指揮官がいない韓国代表(※1)の新指揮官候補の1人だという。
(※1)U-23韓国代表のファン・ソンホン監督が暫定指揮
これについて、ヘスス・カサス監督の母国スペインから『Relevo』もこの事実を確認したとのこと。U-23代表の五輪逸などでチョン・モンギュ会長への辞任要求が強まる大韓サッカー協会(KFA)だが、ユルゲン・クリンスマン前監督の後任選定人事も進められているという。
ただ、現段階での最有力はヘスス・カサス監督ではなく、ザルツブルクやRBライプツィヒ、リーズ・ユナイテッドを率いたアメリカ人指揮官のジェシー・マーシュ氏(50)とのこと。
こちらはKFAの200万ユーロ(約3億3000万円)という年俸提示に対し、「リーズでもっと貰っていた」マーシュ氏側が難色を示している、との見立てが浮上している。
ヘスス・カサス監督は、マーシュ氏との交渉が決裂した場合の次点候補の1人とされている。

20日、日本代表は2026年北中米W杯アジア最終予選の第7節でバーレーン代表とホームで対戦。前半こそゴールレスで終わったが、後半に鎌田大地、久保建英のゴールが決まり、2-0で勝利。これにより、史上最速で8大会連続8度目のw杯出場を決めた。
欧州予選はこれからスタートする中で、すでにW杯行きを決め、開催国のアメリカ、カナダ、メキシコを除けば世界で最初に出場権を獲得したこととなる。
インファンティーノ会長は、最初に出場権を獲得した日本へ祝福のメッセージを送っている。
「日本の皆さま、おめでとうございます。みなさんは、開催国のカナダ・メキシコ・アメリカを除き、2026 FIFAワールドカップの出場権を獲得した最初の国です。本当におめでとうございます」

国際サッカー連盟(FIFA)は、第1回ワールドカップ(W杯)開催から100周年を迎える2030年大会に関して、64チームの参加に拡大することを検討しているという。アメリカ『ニューヨーク・タイムズ』が伝えた。
スペイン、ポルトガル、モロッコの3カ国共催で行われることが決まっている2030年大会。100周年を迎えるため、開幕戦の記念試合をウルグアイ、アルゼンチン、パラグアイで実施することも決まっている。
そんな中、5日に行われたFIFAの理事会にて、議題の一部として提案されたのが出場国を「64」に増加させるという案だった。
2026年の北中米W杯から、これまでの32カ国に対して48カ国に増加させることが決まっている状況。その上で、さらに16カ国をこの大会に限り増加させるという案は、ウルグアイサッカー協会のイグナシオ・アロンソ会長から出された。第1回大会を開催し、初代王者となったウルグアイからの申し出。FIFAのジャンニ・インファンティーノ会長は検討することを約束したという。
FIFAの加盟協会は211カ国となっており、64カ国となれば4分の1以上が参加することとなる異例の状況だ。
ただ、インファンティーノ会長は、W杯こそ大きな影響を与える存在なるべく改革を続けてきており、かつては2年に1回の開催にする案も出たが、これは廃案となっていた。
仮に64カ国の出場となれば、スペイン、ポルトガル、モロッコの3カ国のインフラに大きな問題も生じかねない状況。また、6週間以上の大会期間が必要となるため、規模が大きくなりすぎるという懸念があり、CO2排出量など環境問題にも発展しかねない状況だ。
16カ国増加となれば、ヨーロッパからは55カ国の半数が出場することとなり、南米はもはや予選が要らない状況に。アジア、アフリカ、オセアニアは初出場国がたくさん生まれることになる。
100周年という大会をどう考えるのか。大きな節目となることは間違いないだけに、今後どのような検討がされていくのか注目だ。

2026年の北中米ワールドカップ(W杯)の予選を戦う予定のエリトリア代表だが、予選を辞退することになったという。
11月からはじまる北中米W杯のアフリカ予選。しかし10日、国際サッカー連盟(FIFA)とアフリカサッカー連盟(CAF)は「エリトリアの全試合がキャンセルされた」と共同声明を発表した。
エリトリアサッカー連盟(ENFF)は発表していないが、イギリス『ガーディアン』は、ENFFに近い関係者の話として、選手たちが亡命を申請する可能性があるという懸念があったと伝えた。
エリトリアの選手たちは3カ月かけてアフリカ予選の最初の2試合の準備をしていたとのこと。ただ、海外に遠征した際に亡命する可能性があるという。エリトリアでは終身兵役を多くの選手に対して課しており、それから逃れたい選手が多いという。
ある関係者は「悲痛なこと」と語り、「彼らはエリトリアのサッカーを殺している。選手が説明を求めるのは簡単ではない。抗議活動を行ったとして、刑務所に送られる可能性がある。ただ待ち、彼らが何を決定するかを見ることができる」と語っているという。
エリトリアは2020年1月のスーダン代表との国際親善試合以降、試合を行っていない。公式戦は2019年9月のカタールW杯予選だったため、48カ月試合を行っていないこともあり、FIFAランキングにもいない状況だ。
2009年以来60人以上の選手が代表選手の立場を利用して亡命したとも推定されているとのこと。初戦はモロッコ代表とのアウェイゲームであり、そのまま国外に出ることが強く懸念されていたという。

カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)で優勝し、悲願のトロフィーを獲得したアルゼンチン代表FWリオネル・メッシ。試合後にはそのトロフィーを掲げるメッシの姿や、家族と一緒に喜びを共有する姿が印象的だった。
メッシと喜びを分かち合っていたのは、妻のアントネラ・ロクソさん。2人はともにアルゼンチンのロサリオ出身で、メッシは1987年6月24日に、ロクソさんは1988年2月26日生まれ。同学年ということになる。
2人の出会いは5歳の時。メッシが幼少期を過ごしたクラブ、ニューウェルス・オールドボーイズでプレーした際のチームメイトの従姉妹がロクソさんだったという。そういう意味では、2人は小さい時からの幼馴染だ。
メッシは出会った時から一目惚れしていたことを後に明かしていたが、交際がスタートしたのは17歳頃。ロクソさんの友人が事故死しショックを受けていた時に、当時バルセロナに所属していたメッシがわざわざアルゼンチンに戻って励ましたのだ。そのことがきっかけとなり交際へと発展した。
そこからロクソさんがスペインへと移住すると、2012年11月には長男のチアゴくんが誕生。さらに2015年9月には次男のマテオくんが誕生。2人は事実婚状態を継続していたが、2017年6月にはとうとう故郷のロサリオで挙式して入籍。その後3男のシロくんも誕生している。
メッシは35歳。ロクソさんとは30年来の仲ということになる。ずっとメッシを支えてきたロクソさんにとっても、W杯優勝の喜びは図りしれないものだったのではないだろうか。
