オーストラリア代表GKのアンドリュー・レッドメインが母国にワールドカップ(W杯)出場の切符をもたらした。カタールW杯アジア最終予選でグループBの3位に終わったオーストラリアは、6日前に行われたUAE代表とのアジア予選プレーオフを制して大陸間プレーオフに進出。13日に南米予選5位のペルー代表と対戦した。

互いに失点を避けることを優先した試合は中々シュートシーンが生まれずに膠着した展開に、0-0のまま90分の戦いを終えると、延長戦でも決着がつかずにW杯出場の行方はPK戦へと委ねられた。
オーストラリアのグラハム・アーノルド監督はPK戦の前に守護神マシュー・ライアンに代えて代表戦出場3戦目のレッドメインを投入。大きな決断を下した。

ゴールマウスに立ったレッドメインは、ゴールライン上で体を大きく動かし、ダンスを踊るように上下左右にステップ。相手を惑わすと、これが功を奏したのか3人目のキッカーを務めたルイス・アドビンクラのキックはポストに当たって失敗。さらに6人目のアレックス・バレラのキックをストップし、オーストラリアは5-4でPK戦に勝利。5大会連続6度目のW杯出場を決めた。
指揮官とオーストラリア国民の期待に応えたレッドメインの“幻惑ダンス”には、多くのファンが反応。「ドラクエ(ドラゴンクエスト)のふしぎなおどりみたいだな」、「(イェルジ・)デュデクの後継者だ!」、「これやられるキッカーは蹴りづらい」と独特なステップに驚きの声をあげている。

バイエルンがオーストラリアの至宝・17歳FWイランクンダの獲得を発表! 来夏アデレードから加入決定

バイエルンは14日、Aリーグ・メン(オーストラリア1部)のアデレード・ユナイテッドに所属するU-17オーストラリア代表FWネストリ・イランクンダ(17)との契約を発表した。 イランクンダは2024年7月1日にアデレード・ユナイテッドから加入することとなる。 タンザニア出身のイランクンダは、ブルンジ人の両親の元に誕生。生後3カ月でオーストラリアへと移住した。 アデレード・クロアチア・レイダーズの下部組織に加入すると、その才能を若くして発揮。2020年にはアデレード・ユナイテッドの下部組織に加入すると、2021年には15歳でセカンドチームの一員としてプレーした。 2022年1月8日には15歳333日でAリーグ・メンでデビュー。Aリーグ史上歴代6位の若さとなり、シーズン終了後にはAリーグオールスターズにも選ばれてバルセロナと対戦した。 しかし、若さゆえの問題もあり、翌シーズンは素行に問題が。1カ月の出場停止処分をクラブから下され、ピッチ上でも乱闘を引き起こすなどしていた。 ただ、才能は高く評価。バイエルンからの誘いを一度は断っていたが、今回契約を結ぶこととなった。 ユース育成部長のヨッヘン・ザウアー氏はクラブを通じてコメントしている。 「我々は予てよりネストリの存在に注目しており、来年夏のバイエルン移籍について、彼とアデレード・ユナイテッドと合意に達したことを嬉しく思っている」 「いつも良い議論をしてくれたユナイテッドの責任者には感謝したい」 「ネストリは非常にスピードのあるウインガーで、ドリブルとフィニッシュが得意。ゴールに向かうパワーもとても強いものを持っている」 「我々は彼の可能性を確信しており、彼が我々と共に次のステップを踏んでくれることを信じている」 U-17オーストラリア代表としてプレーするイランクンダは、U-17アジアカップにも出場し、U-17日本代表戦でもゴールを記録していた。 2023.11.14 18:50 Tue
