29日、パリ・オリンピックのアジア2次予選グループAの第2節、フィリピン女子代表vsオーストラリア女子代表がパーススタジアムで行われ、オーストラリアが8-0で勝利を収めた。
26日の初戦ではフィリピンがチャイニーズ・タイペイ女子代表戦に4-1で勝利、オーストラリアもイラン女子代表を2-0で下し、互いに連勝を懸けて臨んだ。
今夏のオーストラリア&ニュージーランド女子ワールドカップ(W杯)にも出場した両チームだったが、[4-3-2-1]で構えるフィリピンを[4-4-2]のホスト国が打ち砕いた。
序盤から圧倒的にボールを支配したマチルダスことオーストラリアは、右サイドを崩して15分に先制点を奪う。エリー・カーペンター(リヨン/フランス)のクロスをケートリン・フォード(アーセナル/イングランド)がヒールで流し、ファーのメアリー・ファウラー(マンチェスター・シティ/イングランド)が蹴り込んだ。
4分後にもフォードが左サイドをえぐっての折り返しをサマンサ・カー(チェルシー/イングランド)が合わせ、瞬く間にリードを広げる。
フィリピンに付け入る隙を全く与えないオーストラリアは、30分、34分とフォードにもゴールが生まれ、前半の追加タイムには再びカー。前半だけ5得点を奪い、ボール保持率73%、被シュート0と完璧な内容で45分を終えた。
後半も趨勢は変わらず、キックオフ直後にはカーが頭でネットを揺らしてハットトリックを達成すれば、56分にはフォードが個人技を披露してのゴールでこちらもハットトリックを達成する。
72分には途中出場のクレア・ウィーラー(エバートン/イングランド)が鮮烈なミドルシュートで代表初ゴールを記録するなど、終始フィリピンを圧倒したオーストラリア。ワールドカップを除いて国内最多となった5万9155人の観衆の前で大勝を飾っている。

世界的に有名な元ポルノ女優のミア・ハリファさん。現在は引退しており、インフルエンサーとして活躍しているが、実は大のサッカーファンとしても知られている。
現在29歳のミアさんは、スポーツ好きであり、特にサッカーがお気に入り。レバノン出身で、8歳の時に不安定な国内情勢の影響でアメリカへ家族と共に亡命していた。
世界的にも人気を博したミアさんはウェストハムのファンであることを公言。プレミアリーグのドリームチームを自身で組むなど、サッカーへの愛が非常に強いことでも知られている。
そのミアさんはYouTubeチャンネルの『AFTV』に出演。自身のお気に入りの現役選手3名を選ぶという企画に参加した。
しかし、ミアさんは現役選手ではなく、かつてマンチェスター・ユナイテッドでプレーし、イングランド代表のレジェンドでもあるデイビッド・ベッカムをまず挙げることに。「私は女性なのでベックスと言わざるを得ないわ」とコメント。理由が実に斬新で「12歳の時の私よりも高い声で彼が話すのを聞く度に、いつも笑わせてもらうわ。とても楽しいの」と、ベッカムの高い声がどうやらお気に入りらしい。
そして2人目に挙げたのがこれまた現役選手ではなく、ユベントスやレアル・マドリーで活躍し、フランス代表のレジェンドでもあるジネディーヌ・ジダンをピックアップした。
ジダンを選んだ理由については「ジネディーヌ・ジダンはサッカーを見てきた中で、最もエキサイティングだった」と、こちらは真面目にサッカー面でお気に入りの選手とのこと。ただ「私は暴力的なものが好きだけど、サッカーはバタバタしていて嫌になるわ。でもヘッドバッドは史上最高の瞬間だったわね」と、2006年のドイツW杯決勝でジダンがイタリア代表DFマルコ・マテラッツィに見舞った頭突きがお気に入りだという。
そして3人目に挙げたのが現役選手。唯一選ばれた現役選手はセルティックに所属し、カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)にも出場したオーストラリア代表MFアーロン・モーイだ。
日本代表FW前田大然、MF旗手怜央、FW古橋亨梧、MF井手口陽介とチームメイトとして今シーズンプレー。かつてはウェスタン・シドニー・ワンダラーズでMF小野伸二(北海道コンサドーレ札幌)共プレーしたことがある。
モーイを選んだ理由については、「フットボール界のカワイ・レナードのようなものね」と語り、NBAのロサンゼルス・クリッパーズに所属するバスケットボールプレーヤーに例え、「モーイはレナードのように行動する。カメラは苦手だし、ちょっとおっちょこちょいだけど、それを感じさせないわ」と語り、「わからないけど、彼を思い出すの。カワイ・レナードは良い男よ」と、またしても独特な理由で選出していた。

オーストラリア代表のカタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)の新ユニフォームが発表された。
日本代表とはアジア最終予選でも同じグループで戦ったオーストラリア。アジアプレーオフ、大陸間プレーオフを勝ち抜き、5大会連続でのW杯出場を決めた。
そのオーストラリアは、新たなユニフォームを発表。サプライヤーのナイキは、自然をテーマにデザインした。
ホームはアウトバックの険しい砂地の風景と、豊かな湿地、そして森林を思い起こさせるものとなっている。
また、アウェイは、オーストラリアの海岸線と豊かな海へのオマージュに。黒曜石と緑の輝きは海洋生物と珊瑚礁を表し、オーストラリア人と沿岸生物との深いつながりを示している。

アジアサッカー連盟(AFC)は7日、5月11日に行われるアジアカップの組み合わせ抽選会に向けたポット分けを発表した。
今年6月に中国で開催予定だったアジアカップ2023。しかし、新型コロナウイルス(COVID-19)の感染拡大の影響もあり、2022年に開催断念が決定。新たな開催地がカタールに決まっていた。
その結果、開催時期が半年後ろ倒しとなり、2024年1月12日に開幕することが決定。本大会の組み合わせ抽選は5月に行われる中、そのポット分けが決まった。
日本はポット1に入り、開催国でありディフェンディングチャンピオンであるカタールの他、イラン、韓国、オーストラリア、サウジアラビアとグループステージで当たることは無くなった。
ポット2にはイラク、UAE、オマーン、ウズベキスタン、中国、ヨルダンと実力国が入ることとなっている。
出場全24カ国はグループAからFまで4カ国ずつ振り分けられ、上位2カ国と3位の中の上位4カ国がラウンド16に進出する。

オーストラリア代表GKジョー・ガウチ(23)が、新天地アストン・ビラでの意気込みを新たにした。豪『news.com.au』が伝えている。
プレミアリーグの今冬移籍市場最終日となった1日、アストン・ビラはアデレード・ユナイテッドから豪代表通算2キャップのGKガウチを完全移籍で獲得したと発表。アジアカップ2023に控え参加の23歳は4年半契約を結んだ。
現在のオーストラリア代表は、言わずと知れたGKマシュー・ライアンが主将兼絶対的守護神に君臨。バレンシア、ブライトン&ホーヴ・アルビオン、アーセナル、レアル・ソシエダ、AZなどを渡り歩く経験豊富な31歳だ。
そんなライアンがいることで滅多にチャンスのないガウチだが、クラブキャリアではプレミアリーグへのステップアップを掴み取った格好。ビラには世界王者アルゼンチン代表の正守護神GKエミリアーノ・マルティネスがおり、定位置確保は難しいだろうが、裏を返せば学べることは盛りだくさん…何よりまだ23歳と、脂が乗ってくるのはこれからだ。
思い返せば、オーストラリア代表はいつの時代も優秀なGKが揃う。
1990年代中盤〜2010年代初頭にかけては、プレミアリーグ通算514試合出場のマーク・シュウォーツァー氏(51)が君臨して代表通算109キャップ。ミランで欧州制覇も経験した同い年のジェリコ・カラッツ氏(51)は54キャップにとどまり、2006年秋に自ら代表キャリアを終えた。
また、アダム・フェデリチ氏(39)はボーンマスやストーク・シティ、レディングなど、キャリアの大半をイングランドで過ごしたが、シュウォーツァー時代とライアン時代に被ってしまい、2007〜19年の13年間で通算16キャップ。2度のW杯はどちらもベンチから眺めた。
さらに、シュウォーツァー氏、カラッツ氏と同じ“1972年組”のマーク・ボスニッチ氏(52)を覚えているファンはいるだろうか。
こちらはマンチェスター・ユナイテッド、チェルシー、アストン・ビラに在籍歴があり、プレミアリーグ通算208試合出場…ガウチの先輩にあたる。しかしキャップ数は17。同い年2人との激しい競争がそうさせ、オーストラリア代表の一員として21世紀を迎えることができなかった人物だ。
時は流れて2024年、シュウォーツァー氏から未来を託された“まだまだ”若い31歳ライアンが正守護神に君臨し、プレミアリーグ移籍を掴んだ“ものすごく”若い23歳ガウチが2番手に控えるオーストラリア代表。欧州系移民による恩恵も勿論あるが、まさにGKの宝庫と言えよう。
いずれライアンの後継者となるであろうガウチはプレミアリーグ移籍から2週間弱、新天地アストン・ビラでの活躍、ひいてはその先に向けた決意を新たにする。
「ビラは僕のアデレードでの試合をくまなくチェックしてくれて、GKとして、また人間としてどれだけの価値があるか詳細に分析してくれたんだ。そして、ここからまた成長するためのアイデアも交渉中に提示してくれた」
「だから、僕はこれからまだまだ学び、成長し、欠点を克服する謙虚な姿勢で頑張っていく。プロフェッショナルとして最高レベルに到達したい。それまで言い訳はなしだ」
