オーストラリアサッカー連盟(FFA)は9日、MFマーク・ミリガン(34)がオーストラリア代表からの引退を申し入れたことを発表した。
FFAによると、9日にオーストラリア代表のチームメイトやスタッフに引退の決断が伝えられたとのこと。代表通算80キャップで6ゴールを記録したミリガンはワールドカップ4大会でメンバーに選ばれていた。
ミリガンは「この14年間でサッカルーズ(オーストラリア代表の愛称)に関わることは特別なことだった」と語り、「その間、国を代表できたことは、夢見たものを超越しています」とコメントした。
また、代表キャリアについては「常に順風満帆ではなかった」と語り、「オーストラリアのスーパースターだらけのチームに入ることはいつも難しかった。ただ、チャンスを与えられた」と代表招集当初を回想。「オーストラリアの黄金世代の選手たちと関わり、彼らから学んだことが、僕にとって感謝してもしきれないプレゼントとなった」と、レジェンドたちとのプレーから得たものが大きかったと語った。
様々な監督の下でプレーしたミリガンは「素晴らしい監督の下でプレーできて幸運だった」とコメント。「最初に僕をサッカルーズのメンバーに入れてくれたフース・ヒディング、僕の夢を叶えてくれたピム・ファーベークに感謝します」と自身を代表に導いた2人の名将に感謝した。
また、「最初にキャプテンマークを渡してくれたホルガー・オジェックにも感謝します。ワールドカップで初めて起用してくれたアンジェ・ポステコグルーに感謝します。アジアカップ決勝でプレーする機会をくれ、アンジェはクラブと代表の両方で僕に色々と教えてくれた」と、現在は横浜F・マリノスの指揮を執るポステコグルー監督への感謝も伝えた。
近年は監督が多く変更していたオーストラリアだが「短い間だったが、信頼を寄せてくれた、ベルト・ファン・マルヴァイク、マルク・ファン・ボメルにも感謝します。そしてグラハム・アーノルドも、僕を1年間キャプテンに指名してくれました」と、自身が関わった全ての監督に感謝の気持ちを述べている。
ミリガンは、ノーザン・スピリットやブラックタウン・シティ、シドニーFC、ニューカッスル・ジェッツなど国内のチームでプレー。2009年1月に中国の上海申花へ加入すると、2010年1月にはジェフユナイテッド千葉に加入。2シーズンを過ごし、2012年1月にメルボルン・ビクトリーへ移籍した。
その後は、UAEのバーニヤースは、サウジアラビアのアル・アハリ、スコットランドのハイバーニアンでプレーし、今年7月からリーグ1(イングランド3部)のサウスエンド・ユナイテッドでプレーしている。

世界的に有名な元ポルノ女優のミア・ハリファさん。現在は引退しており、インフルエンサーとして活躍しているが、実は大のサッカーファンとしても知られている。
現在29歳のミアさんは、スポーツ好きであり、特にサッカーがお気に入り。レバノン出身で、8歳の時に不安定な国内情勢の影響でアメリカへ家族と共に亡命していた。
世界的にも人気を博したミアさんはウェストハムのファンであることを公言。プレミアリーグのドリームチームを自身で組むなど、サッカーへの愛が非常に強いことでも知られている。
そのミアさんはYouTubeチャンネルの『AFTV』に出演。自身のお気に入りの現役選手3名を選ぶという企画に参加した。
しかし、ミアさんは現役選手ではなく、かつてマンチェスター・ユナイテッドでプレーし、イングランド代表のレジェンドでもあるデイビッド・ベッカムをまず挙げることに。「私は女性なのでベックスと言わざるを得ないわ」とコメント。理由が実に斬新で「12歳の時の私よりも高い声で彼が話すのを聞く度に、いつも笑わせてもらうわ。とても楽しいの」と、ベッカムの高い声がどうやらお気に入りらしい。
そして2人目に挙げたのがこれまた現役選手ではなく、ユベントスやレアル・マドリーで活躍し、フランス代表のレジェンドでもあるジネディーヌ・ジダンをピックアップした。
ジダンを選んだ理由については「ジネディーヌ・ジダンはサッカーを見てきた中で、最もエキサイティングだった」と、こちらは真面目にサッカー面でお気に入りの選手とのこと。ただ「私は暴力的なものが好きだけど、サッカーはバタバタしていて嫌になるわ。でもヘッドバッドは史上最高の瞬間だったわね」と、2006年のドイツW杯決勝でジダンがイタリア代表DFマルコ・マテラッツィに見舞った頭突きがお気に入りだという。
そして3人目に挙げたのが現役選手。唯一選ばれた現役選手はセルティックに所属し、カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)にも出場したオーストラリア代表MFアーロン・モーイだ。
日本代表FW前田大然、MF旗手怜央、FW古橋亨梧、MF井手口陽介とチームメイトとして今シーズンプレー。かつてはウェスタン・シドニー・ワンダラーズでMF小野伸二(北海道コンサドーレ札幌)共プレーしたことがある。
モーイを選んだ理由については、「フットボール界のカワイ・レナードのようなものね」と語り、NBAのロサンゼルス・クリッパーズに所属するバスケットボールプレーヤーに例え、「モーイはレナードのように行動する。カメラは苦手だし、ちょっとおっちょこちょいだけど、それを感じさせないわ」と語り、「わからないけど、彼を思い出すの。カワイ・レナードは良い男よ」と、またしても独特な理由で選出していた。

オーストラリア、Aリーグ・メンのウェスタン・ユナイテッドFCでプレーする元イタリア代表MFアレッサンドロ・ディアマンティ(39)が、今週末の試合を持って引退することを発表した。
左足から繰り出されるFKと創造性豊かなプレーを武器とする天才肌の司令塔であるディアマンティは、故郷プラートの育成組織からトップチームへ昇格。これまでフィオレンティーナや飛躍の契機となったリボルノのほか、ウェストハムやブレシア、ボローニャ、アタランタ、パレルモなどでプレー。2014年の広州恒大(現:広州FC)在籍時にはAFCチャンピオンズリーグ(ACL)にも出場し、横浜F・マリノス戦などでゴールも記録している。
ウェスタン・ユナイテッドFCにはクラブがリーグへ新規参入となった2019年夏に加入し、初代キャプテンにも就任。同チームには日本人DF今井智基らが在籍している。
イタリア代表では17試合のキャップ数を記録。ユーロ2012では準優勝を経験している。クラブ、代表を合わせておよそ600試合に出場してきた。
Aリーグ・メンは28日から29日に掛けてレギュラーシーズンの最終節が行われ、ウェスタン・ユナイテッドFCは29日にパース・グローリーと対戦する。
ディアマンティは24日に自身のインスタグラムを更新し、土曜日のゲームを最後にスパイクを脱ぐことを表明。「トロフィーを100個も獲得した選手ではないけれど、みんなの愛は僕にとっての最高の戦果だ」と、ファンへの感謝を綴っている。

16日、オーストラリア&ニュージーランド女子ワールドカップ(W杯)準決勝、オーストラリアvsイングランドがスタジアム・オーストラリア(シドニー)で行われ、イングランドが3-1で勝利。スペイン女子代表の待つ決勝戦へと駒を進めた。
どちらが勝っても初の決勝進出となる一戦。フランス女子代表との壮絶なPK戦を制し、史上初のベスト4入りを果たしたオーストラリアは、ふくらはぎのケガが癒えたサマンサ・カーが今大会初の先発に。一方で、5試合中4試合のクリーンシートと、堅守を支えてきたセンターバックの一枚、アランナ・ケネディが病欠でベンチからも外れ、クロエ・ポーキングホーンがスターターとなった。
対するライオネセスことイングランド。サリナ・ヴィーフマン監督就任後は欧州女王に立つなど、29勝7分け1敗の好成績と躍進を続け、今大会はコロンビア女子代表戦との準々決勝で逆転勝ちを収め、3大会連続の4強入りを決めた。
唯一の黒星を喫した相手が4月に国際親善試合で対戦したオーストラリア。2度も同じ相手に負けるわけにいかないイングランドはコロンビア戦と同じ11人で[3-5-2]を組み、ラウンド16のナイジェリア女子代表戦での愚行により出場停止中のローレン・ジェームズに代わってマンチェスター・ユナイテッドでもタクトを振るエラ・トゥーンが引き続きスタメンに名を連ねた。
両チームのキャプテン、チェルシーでのチームメイトであるカーとミリー・ブライトが抱擁をかわして迎えたキックオフ。試合はボールを持ったイングランドが機をうかがい、オーストラリアが中を締めた[4-4-2]で構える構図で推移する。
すると7分、ロングカウンターからオーストラリアはサム・カーが一対一という場面を作る。ディレイでオフサイドと判断されたが、好調GKメアリー・アープスも股を閉じてブロックし、流れを渡さない。
直後にはイングランドも浮き球パスで裏を取ったジョージア・スタンウェイがこちらも一対一を迎えるが、フランス戦で殊勲のGKマッケンジー・アーノルドも慌てず右足でセーブ。両守護神が早々に存在感を示す。
長いパスからのこぼれ球回収やサイド攻撃で攻略を試みるイングランドは、ボックスには一定回数侵入するも、厚みのある攻撃にはならず。一方のオーストラリアは30分には右CKからヘイリー・ラソ。以降も中盤で引っ掛けてのショートカウンターという場面を作る。
膠着状態が崩れたのは36分、一瞬の間ができた左サイド深くでのスローインからだった。
イングランドはローレン・ヘンプが最深部から粘って残し、左ポケットで受けたアレッシア・ルッソがマイナスに折り返す。DFに当たって若干コースが変わったボールに反応したのは背番号「10」。トゥーン渾身の右足の一振りが、GKノーチャンスの右上隅へ豪快に決まった。
今大会初めて先制を許したオーストラリア。カトリーナ・ゴリーのミドルがGKアープスを強襲すると、アディショナルタイムにはステフ・キャトリーのクロスからカーと気概を見せるが、ビハインドのまま前半を終える。
両者交代なく迎えた後半はオーストラリアがボールを持つ時間が増え、49分にはケイトリン・フォードのヘッドで狙う。イングランドも中盤での競り合いからヘンプがフィニッシュと、慌てず試合を進めていたが、雰囲気を一蹴したのはエースだった。
オーストラリアはクロス攻勢が続き、徐々に流れを引き寄せる中で63分、ルッソを突いてショートカウンターに転じると、ハーフウェーライン手前右で受けたカーが自ら持ち運ぶ。1対2の局面の中で左からはフォローも来ていたが、選択は自らのシュート。ペナルティアーク手前から右足を振ると、想いの乗った一撃はブライトに当たってわずかにコースが変わり、左上隅へと吸い込まれた。
スタジアムに地鳴りのような大歓声が響くと、ここからゲームはさらに熱を帯びる。直後に再びカーが頭で合わせれば、イングランドもルッソがゴールに迫る。すると71分、マンチェスター・シティでも快足を飛ばすヘンプがブライトからの一本のパスで抜け出し、エリー・カーペンターとうまく入れ替わると、左足のフィニッシュを流し込んで勝ち越し弾をマークした。
再び追い掛ける展開となったトニー・グスタフソン監督は交代策と選手の立ち位置を変更し、幾度も好機を迎えたものの、再びゴールを奪ったのはイングランド。86分、ヘンプが持ち運んでのラストパスから右ポケットのルッソがネットを揺らし、リードを広げる。
当然最終盤はオーストラリアの猛攻が続いたが、イングランド守備陣も高い集中力を披露。そのまま6分のアディショナルタイムをしのぎ切ったイングランドが、3度目の正直で初の決勝進出を決め、スペイン女子代表とのファイナルへ臨むこととなった。
一方のオーストラリアは善戦するも及ばず、19日のスウェーデン女子代表との3位決定戦へ回ることとなった。
決勝戦は20日。同じくスタジアム・オーストラリアで日本時間19:00にキックオフを迎える。

オーストラリア&ニュージーランド女子ワールドカップ(W杯)で史上初のベスト4入りを果たすなど、躍進するオーストラリア女子代表。国内の熱気はすさまじく、準決勝のテレビ視聴者数は新記録を樹立したようだ。
W杯開幕前から盛り上がりを見せたオーストラリア国内は、7月14日にメルボルンで行われたフランス女子代表との壮行試合で歴代最多となる5万629人の入場者数を記録。さらに、開幕節のとなったスタジアム・オーストラリア(シドニー)でのアイルランド女子代表戦には満員となる7万5784人が詰め掛け、またも記録を大幅に更新していた。
準決勝のイングランド女子代表戦も満員の観客で埋まったスタジアム・オーストラリア。会場のみならず、テレビでもマチルダス(オーストラリア女子代表の愛称)の人気はうなぎ登りで、現地『ABC』によれば、イングランド戦では、2001年から視聴者数を記録して以来、過去最高を数えたとのことだ。
『セブン・ウエスト・メディア』が『OzTAM』から提供を受けたデータによると、平均視聴者数は約713万人(全国放送視聴者617万人+ストリーミング95万7000人)で、ピーク時には1115万人が視聴していたという。これらにはパブリックビューイング(PV)での視聴数は含まれていない。
日本の外務省によれば2021年9月時点でオーストラリアの人口は約2575万人とのこと。PVや現地観戦者を含めれば国民の約半数がオンタイムで結果を気にしていたと考えられる。
セブンのネットワークスポーツ責任者、ルイス・マーティン氏は声明で「昨夜、マチルダスの選手が全力でプレーしたことにオーストラリア全土は魅了され、我々全員が誇りに思った。彼女たちのFIFA女子ワールドカップの旅は昨夜終わりましたが、マチルダスは歴史を塗り替え、今後何世代にもわたってオーストラリア国民にインスピレーションを与えるパフォーマンスで国民の心を捉えました」と、母国代表の戦いに惜しみない賛辞を送っている。
惜しくも準決勝で敗れたオーストラリアだが、まだ19日にブリスベン・スタジアムでのスウェーデン女子代表との3位決定戦を残している。マチルダスの今大会ラストマッチは、いったいどれほどの関心を集めることになるだろうか。
