世界的に有名な元ポルノ女優のミア・ハリファさん。現在は引退しており、インフルエンサーとして活躍しているが、実は大のサッカーファンとしても知られている。
現在29歳のミアさんは、スポーツ好きであり、特にサッカーがお気に入り。レバノン出身で、8歳の時に不安定な国内情勢の影響でアメリカへ家族と共に亡命していた。
世界的にも人気を博したミアさんはウェストハムのファンであることを公言。プレミアリーグのドリームチームを自身で組むなど、サッカーへの愛が非常に強いことでも知られている。
そのミアさんはYouTubeチャンネルの『AFTV』に出演。自身のお気に入りの現役選手3名を選ぶという企画に参加した。
しかし、ミアさんは現役選手ではなく、かつてマンチェスター・ユナイテッドでプレーし、イングランド代表のレジェンドでもあるデイビッド・ベッカムをまず挙げることに。「私は女性なのでベックスと言わざるを得ないわ」とコメント。理由が実に斬新で「12歳の時の私よりも高い声で彼が話すのを聞く度に、いつも笑わせてもらうわ。とても楽しいの」と、ベッカムの高い声がどうやらお気に入りらしい。
そして2人目に挙げたのがこれまた現役選手ではなく、ユベントスやレアル・マドリーで活躍し、フランス代表のレジェンドでもあるジネディーヌ・ジダンをピックアップした。
ジダンを選んだ理由については「ジネディーヌ・ジダンはサッカーを見てきた中で、最もエキサイティングだった」と、こちらは真面目にサッカー面でお気に入りの選手とのこと。ただ「私は暴力的なものが好きだけど、サッカーはバタバタしていて嫌になるわ。でもヘッドバッドは史上最高の瞬間だったわね」と、2006年のドイツW杯決勝でジダンがイタリア代表DFマルコ・マテラッツィに見舞った頭突きがお気に入りだという。
そして3人目に挙げたのが現役選手。唯一選ばれた現役選手はセルティックに所属し、カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)にも出場したオーストラリア代表MFアーロン・モーイだ。
日本代表FW前田大然、MF旗手怜央、FW古橋亨梧、MF井手口陽介とチームメイトとして今シーズンプレー。かつてはウェスタン・シドニー・ワンダラーズでMF小野伸二(北海道コンサドーレ札幌)共プレーしたことがある。
モーイを選んだ理由については、「フットボール界のカワイ・レナードのようなものね」と語り、NBAのロサンゼルス・クリッパーズに所属するバスケットボールプレーヤーに例え、「モーイはレナードのように行動する。カメラは苦手だし、ちょっとおっちょこちょいだけど、それを感じさせないわ」と語り、「わからないけど、彼を思い出すの。カワイ・レナードは良い男よ」と、またしても独特な理由で選出していた。

オーストラリア代表のMFアルディン・フルスティッチが、日本で元同僚と再会していた。
フランクフルトに所属し、元日本代表MF長谷部誠や日本代表MF鎌田大地と一緒にプレーするフルスティッチは、12日に行われたカタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)アジア最終予選の日本代表戦にも出場。10番を背負い、一時同点となる直接FKを沈めるなど存在感を示した。
そのフルスティッチは試合後、この日は出場機会のなかった日本代表DF板倉滉とユニフォームを交換。その様子を「また会えて嬉しいよ」というコメントとともに、自身のインスタグラムのストーリーズに投稿していた。
フローニンヘンでプロデビューしたフルスティッチは、2020年夏にフランクフルトに移籍するまでプレー。板倉とは2019-20シーズンをともに主力として戦っていた。
元同僚の2人の再会は、フローニンヘンの公式ツイッターも取り上げ、「元チームメイトが試合後にユニフォームを交換」とその様子を伝えている。

Aリーグのアデレード・ユナイテッドに所属する元U-19オーストラリア代表MFジョシュア・カバッロ(21)が、同性愛者であることを告白した。
カバッロはマルタにルーツを持つオーストラリア人。メルボルン・シティの下部組織で育ち、2018年7月にファーストチームへ昇格。2019年7月にウェスタン・ユナイテッドへと完全移籍すると、2021年2月からアデレード・ユナイテッドでプレーしている。
2020-21シーズンのAリーグでは左サイドバックやボランチとして18試合に出場し2アシストを記録。Aリーグ通算でも26試合に出場。また、世代別のオーストラリア代表も経験している選手だ。
カバッロは、所属するアデレード・ユナイテッドのツイッターに投稿された動画で自身について告白。「みんなに伝えなければいけない個人的なことがある。私はサッカー選手であり、ゲイだ」とコメント。自らの口で同性愛者であることを告白した。
また、カバッロは「二重の人生を送っていた」と告白し、自分の能力を最大限発揮することに疲れ果てていたとのこと。さらに「自分が誰であるかを隠していた」とプロサッカー選手になるために、偽った人生を過ごしていたと語った。
カバッロは自身のツイッターでもメッセージを投稿。恥ずかしくでカミングアウトできなかったと告白。また、隠して言えていない仲間のためにも状況を変えていきたいとした。
「私のこの人生において、ここまで到達するための旅は大変な苦労があった。でも、カミングアウトするという決断をして本当に良かったと思っている」
「6年間、自分のセクシャリティと戦ってきた。それを解消できて本当に嬉しい」
「子供の頃、私は恥ずかしく、いつも自分を隠さなければと感じていた。自分が好きなことができないのが恥ずかしく、ゲイであることを恥じていた」

プロサッカー選手では、シュツットガルトやウェストハムなどでプレーした元ドイツ代表MFトーマス・ヒツルスペルガーが引退した翌年に同性愛者であることを公表。リーズやロサンゼルス・ギャラクシーで活躍した元アメリカ代表DFロビー・ロジャーズも2013年に一度引退した際に同性愛者であることを発表していた。

カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)において、アジア勢が強さを示している。
20日に開幕したカタールW杯。オープニングゲームでは開催国のカタール代表がエクアドル代表に完敗を喫し、21日にはFIFAランキングでアジア最上位のイラン代表がイングランド代表相手に2-6で大敗した。
FIFAランキングが強さに直結するわけではないが、アジア勢の連敗は少なからず衝撃を与えていた。
その中でまずサプライズを起こしたのはサウジアラビア代表。リオネル・メッシ擁するアルゼンチン代表相手に先制を許しながらも、ディフェンスラインを高めに設定する攻めの姿勢を貫くと、後半の2ゴールで逆転。35試合無敗という強さを誇っていたアルゼンチンを沈めてみせた。
オーストラリア代表はフランス代表に敗れたものの、サウジアラビアに続いたのが日本代表だ。23日にカタール・W杯グループE第1節でドイツ代表と対戦すると、前半は試合を支配される展開に。幾度もチャンスを作られるとPKから失点を許し0-1で試合を折り返した。
イランの大敗も頭をよぎった中、日本の森保一監督はセンターバックを三枚にし、高い位置からドイツにプレスをかけてボールを奪うことを目指す攻撃的な戦術を採用。捨て身とも言えるやり方を選んだ。
すると、この選択が見事にハマり日本は流れを手中に収める。75分に堂安律のゴールで同点に追い付くと、同点では満足せずに浅野拓磨のゴールで逆転勝利を呼び込んだ。
日本だけでなく世界で伝えられたこの勝利だが、FIFA(国際サッカー連盟)のW杯用の公式SNSが早速その流れに乗じ、サウジアラビアの決勝点を決めたサレム・アル・ドサリと浅野が肩を組んでいるように見える2ショットを投稿した。
「W杯の歴史に刻まれる」というコメントとともに添えられたこの投稿には、多くのファンが反応。「アジアの誇りだ」、「韓国も続け!」、「最高の日だ」など様々な反響が寄せられている。
残すアジア勢は韓国代表。24日にウルグアイ代表との初戦を迎える。

ベルマーレ平塚でもプレーした元オーストラリア代表DFスティーブン・レイバットさん(46)が遺体で発見された。
オーストラリア『シドニー・モーニング・ヘラルド』によると、レイバットさんは13日に家族から行方不明届が出されていたとのこと。12日に友人を訪ねるため、南東部シドニーから東部ブリスベン近郊のバイロン・ベイへ向かったものの、13日午前には家族と連絡が取れなくなっていたという。
地元警察が大規模な捜索を行った結果、14日夜にバイロン・ベイからほど近いビーチ近くの低木林でレイバットさんの遺体が発見されたとのこと。現段階で死因や事件性の有無は公式には発表されていないものの、事件性は低いとみられている。
レイバットさんは2000年のシドニー五輪にU-23オーストラリア代表として参加し、2000〜2004年にかけてはA代表で15試合出場。クラブキャリアでは1999年に短期間ながらもベルマーレ平塚(現:湘南ベルマーレ)でプレーし、オランダのフェイエノールト、ベルギーのヘントなどにも在籍経験を持つ。
引退後は「現役時代にそんなことはできなかった」として2021年に同性愛をカミングアウト。同年には、病院のリハビリ病棟に勤務するなか、腎臓移植によって高齢男性の命を助けていた。
レイバットさんの訃報を受け、元オーストラリア代表DFルーク・ウィルクシャー氏など、多くの関係者が哀悼の意をSNSなどで表明している。
