「(出場可能選手枠が)22人に広がったという話を聞いた時、非常に嬉しかったですし、ケガ人が出なければ試合に出ることができないバックアップメンバーとは違って、大枠ではありますけど、試合に出る可能性が出てきたというだけで自分のモチベーションは高い。ポジションにこだわらず、どこであれ最善を尽くす気持ちでいます」

こう語るのは、当初、東京五輪バックアップ枠の1人に位置付けられた町田浩樹(鹿島)。鈴木彩艶(浦和)、瀬古歩夢(C大阪)、林大地(鳥栖)とともにイザという時に備えてチームに帯同することになっていた。

しかし、ご存じの通り、コロナ禍の特別ルールで登録が22人に拡大。彼らにもチャンスが巡ってきた。このうち林は12日のU-24アルゼンチン戦(ヨドコウ)に1トップでスタメン出場。2回の決定機こそ逃したが、前線でタメを作り、堂安律(PSV)ら2列目を巧みに生かし、本番の戦力に急浮上した。
町田ら守備陣は、吉田麻也(サンプドリア)、冨安健洋(ボローニャ)という鉄壁のDFコンビがいるため、出番を得るのは容易ではない。ただ、短期決戦の大舞台では予期せぬアクシデントも起こり得る。

実際、真夏の高温多湿の気象条件の中、中2日ペースで6試合を戦う五輪はどの大会よりも過酷だ。「6試合全部同じメンバーでは戦えない」と吉田も語気を強めていたが、1次リーグ3戦のうちにさまざまなメンバーを使っておかないと、決勝トーナメント突入後はエネルギー切れにならないとも限らない。町田ら控え組がいい準備をして、短時間でも良い仕事をしてくればければ、金メダルという大目標には辿り着くことはできない。そういう意味で彼らの存在はやはり大きいのだ。
ホンジュラス戦を振り返っても、町田は後半35分に吉田と交代。その後、左サイドバック(SB)の中山雄太(ズウォレ)の足がつり、交代を余儀なくされたことで左SBを務め、堂安が奪った3点目のシーンでは、左を駆け上がる相馬勇紀(名古屋)をしっかりとサポートしてみせた。短時間でも賢く確実なプレーができれば、出場可能性はより広がる。そういう意味で、背番号20をつける長身DFは好印象を残したのはないだろうか。

そもそも茨城県つくば市出身の町田は、中学時代から常勝軍団・鹿島のアカデミーに所属。勝利のメンタリティを胸に刻みながら成長した。2016年にトップ昇格した頃は小笠原満男(鹿島アカデミーアドバイザー)や曽ヶ端準(トップGKコーチ)もバリバリの現役だったし、柴崎岳(レガネス)や昌子源(G大阪)も在籍。内田篤人(JFAロールモデルコーチ)も2018年1月にはドイツから復帰し、ハイレベルな要求の中で自己研鑽を続けてきた。

「周りの選手には代表の常連にいるような選手ばかり。レベルが物凄く高かったし、彼らとトレーニングできて、自分の経験になりました。特に満男さんは試合の勝ちへのこだわりは人一倍すごかった。僕もあそこまで突き詰めていかないといけないと感じましたね」

神妙な面持ちでこう語る町田。とはいえ、それだけ選手層が厚ければ、公式戦に出るのもより一層、難しくなる。2017年U-20ワールドカップ(W杯=韓国)の頃は出番をつかめておらず、本大会メンバーから落選。本人も「そういう扱いは仕方ない」と納得しつつも、悔しさを噛み締めていたという。

状況が大きく変化したのは、2019年だ。2018年夏に植田直通(ニーム)が欧州移籍に踏み切り、2019年1月にも昌子がフランスへ赴いたことで、町田に出場機会が訪れたのだ。翌2020年にはザーゴ前監督が就任。190㎝のレフティであり、パス出しやフィード力に秀でた彼は高く評価され、主力の一角を占めるようになった。その立場は今年4月に相馬直樹監督が就任してからも不動だ。そうやって所属クラブで存在感を増したからこそ、森保一監督も最後の最後で彼を東京五輪本番要員に招集したのだろう。

「やっぱり自国開催でできるチャンスは少ないし、一生に一度出れるか出れないかという大会なので、いい準備をして一丸となって戦っていきたいと思います」と彼自身も大いに気合を入れている。

「自分の特徴である空中戦の強さや左足をより磨いていきたい。そこは他の選手が持っていない武器」と本人も自信をのぞかせたように、190㎝という高さは吉田や冨安にもないストロングポイント。屈強な相手との競り合いでは大いに威力を発揮する。攻撃時もリスタートからの得点という部分で町田にかかる期待は大きい。もしかすると、彼が五輪本番のどこかで大きな仕事をやってのけることも考えられるのだ。

日本として53年ぶりに五輪でメダルを獲得しようと思うなら、そういうラッキーボーイの存在は必要不可欠だ。林はその筆頭と言えるが、町田も勝負どころで使えるカード。自分がチームの命運を握る存在になるかもしれないことを、彼自身も自覚しつつ、まずは17日のU-24スペイン戦(神戸)に備えてほしい。スペイン相手に強烈なインパクトを残せれば、本大会のここ一番で起用される可能性はますます高まるのだから。

監督引き抜かれたザンクト・パウリ、サン=ジロワーズのブレシン監督を引き抜き成功! 110年ぶりのカップ優勝を達成

「不公平」、「八百長」と炎上中の佐藤隆治主審、物議醸した判定に不服のマレーシアサッカー協会が公式の意見書を提出

21世紀の出場試合数ランキング発表! 首位は1145試合のC・ロナウド、トップ10に日本人選手がランクイン

IFFHS(国際サッカー歴史統計連盟)が、21世紀で最もプレーした選手のランキングを発表。トップ10には日本人選手もランクインした。 様々な統計を行うIFFHS。2022年までのデータを集計し、21世紀に入ってからのプレーした試合数をもとにランキングを作成した。 対象となるのは、各国のリーグ戦やカップ戦、国際カップ戦、代表チームの試合も含まれ、全ての公式戦が対象になっている。 今回の統計では1000試合以上プレーした選手が3人に増加。首位は昨年と変わらず、サウジアラビアへ活躍の場を移したポルトガル代表FWクリスティアーノ・ロナウド(アル・ナスル)となり、1145試合を記録した。 2022年に1000試合を突破したのは、ブラジル代表DFダニエウ・アウベス(UNAMプーマス)とアルゼンチン代表FWリオネル・メッシ(パリ・サンジェルマン)。アウベスは1033試合、メッシは1003試合となった。メッシはカタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)での試合で1000試合を超えたことになる。 そんな中、8位には日本人がランクイン。941試合に出場したMF遠藤保仁(ジュビロ磐田)だ。遠藤はガンバ大阪と磐田、そして日本代表での試合が21世紀に含まれている。なお、アジア人でも唯一となり、900試合以上を達成しているのも12名となっている。 ◆21世紀の出場試合数ランキング 合計(国内リーグ/国内カップ/国際カップ/代表) 1位:クリスティアーノ・ロナウド(ポルトガル) 1145試合(651/93/205/196) 2位:ダニエウ・アウベス(ブラジル) 1033試合(620/115/172/126) 3位:リオネル・メッシ(アルゼンチン) 1003試合(559/102/170/172) 4位:イケル・カシージャス(スペイン) 974試合(585/57/171/161) 5位:ジョアン・モウティーニョ(ポルトガル) 958試合(563/107/142/146) 6位:ズラタン・イブラヒモビッチ(スウェーデン) 948試合(603/72/152/121) 7位:ルカ・モドリッチ(クロアチア) 947試合(569/69/146/162) 8位:遠藤保仁(日本) 941試合(606/117/66/152) 9位:チャビ・エルナンデス(スペイン) 937試合(536/95/174/132) 10位:セルヒオ・ラモス(スペイン) 935試合(534/70/151/180) 11位:アンドレス・イニエスタ(スペイン) 933試合(552/98/152/131) 12位:ロジェリオ・セニ(ブラジル) 904試合(675/71/149/9) 2023.01.12 12:45 Thu

「三笘っぽい」「イケメンすぎ」俳優・神尾楓珠が日本代表新ユニを『オールドルーキー』最終回で着用、一部で困惑も「本物より先に着ちゃうのか」

「純也だけ覇気がないぞ笑」ガッツポーズで写真撮影に臨んだ日本代表…1人だけ抑え目な伊東純也が話題「ほんとマイペース」「可愛いすぎる笑」
