「チームに求められていることしか考えていない」。後藤啓介、20歳が見せた献身と野心

11月14日、ガーナ戦で日本代表デビューを果たしたFW後藤啓介。ジュビロ磐田でクラブ史上最年少得点者となり、2024年にベルギーへ渡った20歳は、限られた時間の中でチームのために走り続けた。ストライカーとして結果を追いながらも、まずは求められた役割を遂行する。そこには、後藤が抱く「献身」と「野心」が確かにあった。 ■「まず守備から」。後藤が体現したチームファースト森保監督から告げられたのは、シンプルなひと言だった。「まず守備から。ゼロで抑えるためにハードワークしてほしい」 26番を背負った191cmのストライカーがピッチに入ったのは後半31分。ファーストプレーで相手DFを背負った状態でボールを収めると、その後は相手のパス回しを全力で追いかけた。後半40分、ゴール前でMF佐野海舟からの縦パスを受けると、走り込んできたMF佐藤龍之介へワンタッチで落とす。「龍が勢いを持って入ってきたのが見えてたので。自分はゴールに背を向けていたし、前向きの選手をシンプルに使いました」その1分後には右サイドからのクロスに飛び込んだ。惜しくも相手のクリアに阻まれたが、動き出しの質には手応えがあった。「昨日の練習で(菅原)由勢くんがいいクロスを上げてたので、来るなと思ってました。ああいう形は続けていきたい」ストライカーである以上、“結果”は常に求められる。だが後藤は、チームの秩序の中で自分を活かす選択をした。「結果を出すこと、チームに求められること、どんなバランスでプレーしていましたか?」と聞くと、後藤は迷うことなく答えた。「チームに求められていることしか考えていないです。それをやった結果、ゴールはついてくると思っています」限られた時間の中で、ストライカーとしての嗅覚とチームプレーのバランスを見せた。 ■黒髪に戻して、もう一度スタートラインへ日本代表に合流した時は金髪だった後藤だが、豊田スタジアムのピッチには黒髪で現れた。シント=トロイデンVVのチームメート・谷口彰悟と一緒に美容室に行って黒に染め直したと明かした。「初代表ですし、もう一回スタートだなと思って。プロになった時の気持ちを思い出したかった」デビューの夜に合わせて、自分自身をリセットする。そこには、本気でW杯に出場するという決意が滲んでいた。森保ジャパンでは、センターフォワード争いが熾烈だ。FW上田綺世、FW小川航基、FW町野修斗らがしのぎを削る中で、後藤はサプライズ選出を狙う。「次は国立。今日よりお客さんも入ると思うので、その中で結果を残したい。森保(一)さんに“使いたい”と思わせるプレーをしたい」チームファーストでありながら、ストライカーとしての本能を隠さない。そして、同世代の仲間たち——佐藤、MF北野颯太と共にピッチに立った時間も、新しい刺激を与えた。「急にすごく若くなったので、アンダー世代(の代表)なのかと思ったぐらいですけど、自分たちが引っ張っていかないといけない」 20歳のFWは言葉を選びながら、確かな責任感を見せた。ガーナ戦での数分間は、単なる“デビュー”ではない。チームの中でエゴを磨き、大舞台へ感覚を研ぎ澄ませる、若きストライカーの“始まり”だった。取材・文=北健一郎 2025.11.15 12:30 Sat

「何度見ても鳥肌」ブラジルW杯出場を掴んだ本田圭佑の豪州戦“ど真ん中PK”にファン大興奮「やっぱメンタル強すぎ」
