アメリカサッカー連盟(USSF)は9日、カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)に臨むアメリカ代表メンバー26名を発表した。

アメリカは2大会ぶりに本大会に出場。グループBに入り、イングランド代表、ウェールズ代表、イラン代表と同居した。

北中米カリブ海予選では、今大会も苦しみ、3位で通過。グレッグ・バーホルター監督が率いるチームは、下馬評が高くない中で平均年齢25歳175日と若いチームとして臨むこととなる。
今回のメンバーには、FWクリスチャン・プリシッチ(チェルシー)やFWジョバンニ・レイナ(ドルトムント)、MFルカ・デ・ラ・トーレ(セルタ)、GKマット・ターナー(アーセナル)、DFセルジーニョ・デスト(ミラン)らが順当に招集されている。

アメリカは初戦でウェールズ(11/21)と、第2戦でイングランド(11/25)、最終戦でイラン(11/29)と対戦する。今回発表されたアメリカ代表メンバーは以下の通り。

将来が嘱望された女子大生GKが22歳で他界…スタンフォード大学の寮で見つかる

W杯2連覇の米女子代表ジル・エリス監督が退任

アメリカ女子代表は30日、ジル・エリス監督(52)が10月退任することを発表した。 ジル・エリス監督は2014年5月にアメリカ女子代表の監督に就任。それまでは同チームのアシスタントコーチやU-20とU-21のアメリカ女子代表を歴任してきた。 米女子代表監督の正式就任以前に2回ほど暫定監督を務めたエリス監督は、翌年のワールドカップでは決勝で日本を5-2で下し、就任から13カ月で世界一に。FIFA(国際サッカー連盟)が認めるその年の女子年間最優秀監督に選ばれた。さらに今夏にフランスで行われた同大会でも決勝でオランダを下し、2連覇を達成した。 エリス監督は在任期間5年半で、102勝18分け7敗という史上最多キャップと勝利数を誇る。「変化は私の人生で常に受け入れられてきたものであり、私や家族にとって適切なタイミング」と語り、大きな感謝の意を示した。 ｢このチームを率いることが出来たのは私の一生の名誉です。彼女たちのコミットメント、そして大会に勝つことだけでなく、このスポーツの知名度を世界的に高めていきたいという情熱に感謝と賛辞を贈りたいと思います。そんな彼女たちは同じ様な意思を持つ人々にインスピレーションを与えました」 「ワールドクラスのコーチやスタッフにも心から感謝しています。一緒に働けることは私の特権でした。彼女たちは典型的なプロフェッショナルで、優れた人物です」 「最後に、このプログラムへの投資とサポートをしてくれた団体や、この旅路で重要な役割を果たしてきた元選手やコーチたちに感謝したいと思います。ありがとうございました」 2019.07.31 14:49 Wed
