日本代表と対戦するオーストラリア代表だが、前途多難な状況のようだ。

カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)出場を目指し、アジア最終予選に臨んでいるオーストラリア。現在グループBで3位につけており、このままでは出場権が獲得できない。

3月の2試合は2位の日本、そして首位のサウジアラビア代表との上位対決。ここで2連勝すれば自力でW杯出場権を獲得することとなる。
一方で、24日の日本戦で負ければ2位以内が消滅することとなり、プレーオフからのW杯出場を目指すこととなる。

その大事な一番をホームで迎えるオーストラリアだが、チームを招集後に様々な問題が発生している。
まず、MFライリー・マッグリー(ミドルズブラ)とFWアダム・タガート(セレッソ大阪)は招集予定だったものの、欠場が確定したために招集外に。また、FWニキタ・ルカビツヤは、ワクチンを1回しか接種していないために渡航する資格を持っておらず、招集外となった。

さらに、招集したMFマシュー・レッキー(メルボルン・シティ)はそ径部の負傷のために辞退。FWジェイミー・マクラーレン(メルボルン・シティ)は日本戦は参加するものの、サウジアラビア戦は結婚式と重なった為に遠征には帯同しないとのことだ。

加えて、MFアーロン・ムーイ(上海海港)、MFジャクソン・アーバイン(ザンクト・パウリ)は新型コロナウイルス(COVID-19)に感染したために欠場。FWクレイグ・グッドウィン(アデレード・ユナイテッド)は濃厚接触者ととなったために参加できない状況だ。

また、MFトーマス・ロギッチ(セルティック)は週末の試合で足首を負傷したとされ、不参加になる可能性がある状況。そこに加えて、グラハム・アーノルド監督が新型コロナウイルスの陽性になり隔離されていたにも関わらず、隔離期間中にマスクなしで外出している姿が目撃されて罰金処分を受けていた。

日本もFW大迫勇也(ヴィッセル神戸)、DF酒井宏樹(浦和レッズ)、FW前田大然(セルティック)と3名が辞退するなどイレギュラーなことは起きているが、オーストラリアも相当難しい状況となっているようだ。

水原三星のオーストラリア代表FWタガートがセレッソ大阪加入へ

元オーストラリア代表DFのレイバット氏が遺体で発見…99年にベルマーレ平塚でプレー

ベルマーレ平塚でもプレーした元オーストラリア代表DFスティーブン・レイバットさん(46)が遺体で発見された。 オーストラリア『シドニー・モーニング・ヘラルド』によると、レイバットさんは13日に家族から行方不明届が出されていたとのこと。12日に友人を訪ねるため、南東部シドニーから東部ブリスベン近郊のバイロン・ベイへ向かったものの、13日午前には家族と連絡が取れなくなっていたという。 地元警察が大規模な捜索を行った結果、14日夜にバイロン・ベイからほど近いビーチ近くの低木林でレイバットさんの遺体が発見されたとのこと。現段階で死因や事件性の有無は公式には発表されていないものの、事件性は低いとみられている。 レイバットさんは2000年のシドニー五輪にU-23オーストラリア代表として参加し、2000〜2004年にかけてはA代表で15試合出場。クラブキャリアでは1999年に短期間ながらもベルマーレ平塚(現:湘南ベルマーレ)でプレーし、オランダのフェイエノールト、ベルギーのヘントなどにも在籍経験を持つ。 引退後は「現役時代にそんなことはできなかった」として2021年に同性愛をカミングアウト。同年には、病院のリハビリ病棟に勤務するなか、腎臓移植によって高齢男性の命を助けていた。 レイバットさんの訃報を受け、元オーストラリア代表DFルーク・ウィルクシャー氏など、多くの関係者が哀悼の意をSNSなどで表明している。 2024.01.15 13:30 Mon
