現地時間5日、2026年北中米ワールドカップ南米予選の第7節が行われた。W杯王者であり、コパ・アメリカ2024王者でもあるアルゼンチン代表が、チリ代表をホームに迎えた一戦は、3-0でアルゼンチンが勝利。南米予選6勝目を記録して首位を守った。
今夏のコパ・アメリカで連覇を達成したアルゼンチン。リオネル・メッシは今回の活動に招集されていない中、2トップはラウタロ・マルティネスとフリアン・アルバレスが務めた。
序盤から攻め立てるアルゼンチン。ラウタロとフリアン・アルバレスにボールを集めてチリゴールに迫って行くが、フィニッシュの精度を欠いてしまう。
それでも地力で勝るアルゼンチンペースに。メッシやアンヘル・ディ・マリアらがいない状態でも、多彩な攻撃を見せていくが、フィニッシュに苦しむことに。前半はゴールレスドローに終わった。

リードを2点に広げたアルゼンチン。チリは最終盤に決定機を迎えるが、GKエミリアーノ・マルティネスの好守に阻まれて得点を奪えず。するとアルゼンチンは、アディショナルタイム1分にボックス内左でアレハンドロ・ガルナチョのパスを受けたパウロ・ディバラが左足一閃。角度があまりない難しい位置からのシュートが若干ディフレクトしてニアを抜いてネットを揺らし、アルゼンチンが3-0で勝利を収めた。
なお、5日にはもう1試合が行われ、ボリビア代表がホームでベネズエラ代表相手に4-0で圧勝。今予選2勝目を記録した。

「三つ子なのか?」「似すぎでしょ」シティFWアルバレスの活躍を家族も見守るも、そっくりすぎる3兄弟が話題に「どれが本人?」

指揮官出場停止のアルゼンチン代表、コーチのアイマール氏がペルー戦で指揮
