レアル・マドリーの下部組織出身のカルバハルは、2010年にファーストチームに昇格。一度はレバークーゼンに加入したものの、ブレイクすると翌年マドリーに復帰し、以降SBとして絶対的な地位を確立している。
高い守備力と攻撃力を兼ね備えた現代的SBとして知られるカルバハルだが、2014年3月29日に行われたラ・リーガ第31節のラージョ・バジェカーノ戦では、記念すべきマドリー初ゴールを決めている。
1-0とマドリーリードの55分、FWガレス・ベイルが右サイドに抜け出すと、中央のFWクリスティアーノ・ロナウドにパス。C・ロナウドがダイレクトで丁寧なパスを攻撃参加していたカルバハルに落とすと、カルバハルが落ち着いて左足のシュートを流し込み、追加点を決めた。

21世紀の出場試合数ランキング発表! 首位は1145試合のC・ロナウド、トップ10に日本人選手がランクイン
