チェルシーに所属するフランス代表FWオリヴィエ・ジルーが、ミシェル・プラティニ氏を上回り、代表最多得点記録で2位に浮上した。

7日に行われた親善試合でウクライナ代表と対戦したフランス代表は7-1で圧勝。この試合でフランス代表通算100試合目の出場となったジルーは24分にボックス手前中央から左足を振り抜いて1点目を記録すると、34分にこぼれ球を押し込んで2点目を記録して、チームの勝利に貢献した。

この2ゴールにより、ジルーのフランス代表通算ゴールは「42」に。かつてユベントスで活躍してバロンドールを3度受賞したフランス代表のレジェンドであるプラティニ氏を超える歴代2位の記録になった。

なお、フランス代表の最多ゴールは、アーセナルやバルセロナで活躍したティエリ・アンリ氏が保有する「51」ゴールとなっている。

ジルーは今回の代表活動前に自身のゴール数について言及。早く並びたいと意気込んでいた。
