2カ月連続で招集した選手が愚行を犯してしまったイングランド代表。ガレス・サウスゲート監督は、選手たちに警告したようだ。イギリス『BBC』が伝えた。国際親善試合とUEFAネーションズリーグ2020-21に臨むイングランド代表。しかし、代表招集を受けていたチェルシーのFWタミー・エイブラハムとDFベン・チルウェル、そしてドルトムントのMFジェイドン・サンチョが新型コロナウイルスのプロトコルを破ってしまった。

エイブラハムは2日に23歳の誕生日を迎え、3日のクリスタル・パレス戦ごにサプライズで誕生日を祝われたとのこと。上述の3名の選手を含む20名以上が集まるパーティーが行われていた。
代表活動の前にハメを外してしまった3名だが、6名以上の集まりが禁止されているにも関わらず大勢でパーティーを開催。完全にプロトコル違反の行為であり、この件について糾弾されていた。

イングランド代表では、9月の代表活動中にマンチェスター・シティのMFフィル・フォーデン、マンチェスター・ユナイテッドのMFメイソン・グリーンウッドの2名がアイスランドで女性を部屋に連れ込むプロトコル違反を犯し、そのまま代表を追放。今回のメンバーにも招集されていなかった。
2カ月連続で若手選手の愚行が発覚したイングランド代表だが、サウスゲート監督は選手たちに対して改めて警告を発したとのこと。その様子をエバートンのFWドミニク・キャルバート=ルーウィンが語った。

「彼はその行動が何を意味するのか、そしてイングランドのためにプレーすることへの期待について、僕たちに思い出させてくれた」

「特別でなければならず、特に注意し、ルールに従わなければいけない」

エイブラハムとチルウェル、そしてサンチョは8日のウェールズ代表との親善試合を欠場する可能性がある。キャルバート=ルーウィンは3人が謝罪したと明かし、改めて行動に責任を持つ必要があると語った。

「彼らは謝罪した。それが何よりも彼らがしなければならなかったことだけど、僕たちはみんな、国のためにプレーすることの意味を理解している。それを常に頭に入れておく必要がある」

また、ウェールズ戦で起用が予想されるバーンリーのGKニック・ポープもこの件についてコメントしている。

「責任を思い出させるということは、自分自身のために行動しているのではなく、チーム、そして国のためにも行動しているということを証明する点では素晴らしかった」

代表活動前の行動であったため、現時点で3名についての処分などは発表されていないが、フォーデンとグリーンウッドはそのまま追放され、さらに罰金も支払っていた。

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】

イングランド代表が新ユニフォームを発表、赤ではなくなったアウェイは賛否分かれる「初めてじゃないか?」「そのチョイスはなしだ」

イングランド代表のユニフォームが変? ファンが気づいた異変はベテランキットマンのまさかのミス…「間違ってしまった」
