14日と15日にかけて、2024-25 SOMPO WEリーグが開幕した。4年目を迎えたWEリーグ。三菱重工浦和レッズレディースが3連覇を目指す中、初代女王のINAC神戸レオネッサや日テレ・東京ヴェルディベレーザらが覇権奪還を目指す。
連覇中の女王・浦和は、アウェイで東京NBと対戦した。得点王でMVPの清家貴子がブライトン&ホーヴ・アルビオンへと移籍した中、開幕戦から力を見せつける。12分、スルーパスに抜け出した藤﨑智子がマイナスのパスを落とすと、塩越柚歩のダイレクトパスを受けた島田芽依がしっかりと決めて、浦和が先制する。
強豪同士の対戦はなかなかゴールが生まれない中、後半は互いにゴールに迫るチャンスを作ると、52分に浦和が追加点。島田が左サイドに展開すると、伊藤美紀が左サイドからクロスを入れると、藤﨑がダイレクトシュート。GK野田にながセーブするも、押し込んでリードを広げた。これはWEリーグ初ゴールとなった。
東京NBはシュート数も多かったなか、最後までゴールを奪えず0-2で終了。3連覇に向けて浦和が好スタートを切った。
試合はEL埼玉が優勢に進めることに。8分にはボックス手前から吉田莉胡が強烈なミドルシュートを放つが、クロスバーに当たってしまう。
それでも23分、ボックス手前でパスを受けた瀬戸口梢が左足一閃。ゴール右隅に見事なシュートが決まり、先制に成功する。
大宮Vも反撃に出る中、49分にはEL埼玉が追加点。右CKからのクロスをニアで大沼歩加がヘディングで繋ぐと、最後はファーサイドで岸みのりが詰めて、リードを2点とする。
70分には雷雨の影響で試合が中断。スタンドのサポーターが避難し、40分間も止まることに。その後再開されると、EL埼玉は吉田がGKとの一対一のビッグチャンスを迎えたがGK今村南海が体を張ってセーブした。
大宮Vは後半アディショナルタイムにDFのミスをついた杉澤海星がゴールへと流し込みWEリーグ初ゴール。しかし、反撃はここまでとなり1-2でEL埼玉が開幕戦勝利を飾った。

後半もS広島Rが積極的に攻め込んでいくが、ゴールは遠く。10秒で決まったゴールでI神戸が勝利するかと思われたが、後半アディショナルタイム1分にS広島Rが劇的ゴール。瀧澤千聖のFKからのクロスを、髙橋美夕紀が頭で合わせ、狭いコースを抜いて同点。1-1の引き分けに終わった。

浦和レディースのMF遠藤優が入籍を発表! ピッチ内外での活躍は「彼の支えがあるから」
