29日、パリ・オリンピックのアジア2次予選グループAの第2節、フィリピン女子代表vsオーストラリア女子代表がパーススタジアムで行われ、オーストラリアが8-0で勝利を収めた。26日の初戦ではフィリピンがチャイニーズ・タイペイ女子代表戦に4-1で勝利、オーストラリアもイラン女子代表を2-0で下し、互いに連勝を懸けて臨んだ。
今夏のオーストラリア&ニュージーランド女子ワールドカップ(W杯)にも出場した両チームだったが、[4-3-2-1]で構えるフィリピンを[4-4-2]のホスト国が打ち砕いた。
序盤から圧倒的にボールを支配したマチルダスことオーストラリアは、右サイドを崩して15分に先制点を奪う。エリー・カーペンター(リヨン/フランス)のクロスをケートリン・フォード(アーセナル/イングランド)がヒールで流し、ファーのメアリー・ファウラー(マンチェスター・シティ/イングランド)が蹴り込んだ。
4分後にもフォードが左サイドをえぐっての折り返しをサマンサ・カー(チェルシー/イングランド)が合わせ、瞬く間にリードを広げる。
