1日、2023-24シーズンのヨーロッパリーグ(EL)のグループステージ組み合わせ抽選会がモナコで行われた。

8月31日にはチャンピオンズリーグ(CL)の組み合わせが決定。ELもプレーオフが終わり、出場32チームが決定した。

今大会には日本人選手としてMF堂安律(フライブルク)、MF三笘薫(ブライトン&ホーヴ・アルビオン)、MF守田英正(スポルティングCP)、MF遠藤航(リバプール)、DF町田浩樹(ロイヤル・ユニオン・サン=ジロワーズ)の日本代表組が出場。さらに、鹿島アントラーズから今夏移籍したDF常本佳吾が所属するセルヴェットも出場し、6名の日本人が参加する。
優勝候補筆頭でもあるリバプールは、グループEに入り、LASKリンツ(オーストリア)、サン=ジロワーズ(ベルギー)、トゥールーズ(フランス)と同居。遠藤と町田の日本代表対決が実現した。

また、クラブ史上初のEL出場となったブライトンは、グループBに入り、アヤックス(オランダ)、マルセイユ(フランス)、AEKアテネ(ギリシャ)と強豪ひしめく厳しいグループに。昨季のELで準優勝に終わったローマはグループGに入り、常本のセルヴェットが同居した。
さらに、昨シーズンのヨーロッパ・カンファレンスリーグ(ECL)王者であるウェストハムはグループAに入り、フライブルク(ドイツ)、オリンピアコス(ギリシャ)、TSC(セルビア)と同居。守田のスポルティングは、グループDに入り、アタランタ(イタリア)、シュトゥルム・グラーツ(オーストリア)、ラクフ・チェンストホヴァ(ポーランド)と対戦する。
