14日、カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)の準決勝でフランス代表はモロッコ代表と対戦。2大会連続の決勝進出を果たし、60年ぶりの連覇という偉業達成に近づいている。

悲願達成まであと1つまで迫っている中、フランスのエマニュエル・マクロン大統領が対戦相手であり、繋がりの深いモロッコ代表のドレッシングルームを試合後に訪れていたという。

フランスはここまでオウンゴールの1失点に抑えていたモロッコ相手に、テオ・エルナンデス、ランダル・コロ・ムアニのゴールで2-0と勝利。モロッコのペースに持ち込ませずにしっかりと勝利を収めた。

モロッコは、かつてフランス領であり、独立したのは1956年とわずか66年前のこと。そのため、両国には深い繋がりがある。

チームを率いるワリド・レグラギ監督は、フランスで生まれ、フランス国内でキャリアを積んでおり、フランス代表FWオリヴィエ・ジルーとはかつてチームメイトでもあった。

またフランスでプレーする代表選手も多い状況。そんな中、好ゲームをみせ、ここまでの躍進を見せてきたモロッコをマクロン大統領も称えたようだ。
