リバプールのレジェンドである元イングランド代表DFのジェイミー・キャラガー氏が、レンジャーズのスティーブン・ジェラード監督の去就を予想した。イギリス『スカイ・スポーツ』が伝えている。

ジェラード監督は2018年6月にレンジャーズの指揮官に就任。最初の2シーズンこそセルティックの後塵を拝し2位に終わったが、昨シーズンは開幕から好調を維持し続け無敗優勝を達成。チームに2010-11シーズンぶりのリーグ優勝をもたらした。

今シーズンはスコティッシュ・プレミアシップ第2節でダンディー・ユナイテッドに敗れ、昨季から続く無敗がストップしたものの、13試合を消化した現時点で9勝3分け1敗の成績を残しリーグ首位に立っている。

こうしたジェラード監督の手腕を高く評価し、招へいに動いていると噂されるのがアストン・ビラだ。現在リーグ5連敗で15位に沈むビラは、7日にディーン・スミス監督を解任。後任の選定を急いでいる。

現時点でまだ大きな動きはないものの、かつてリバプールで共にチームを支えてきた間柄であるキャラガー氏は、ジェラード監督にとってビラの指揮官就任は大きなチャレンジになると後押し。一方で、プレミアリーグ挑戦の前にレンジャーズで連覇を目指しても遅くはないとも助言している。

「私の考えとして、アストン・ビラはジェラードにとって素晴らしい移籍先になると思う。ただ、彼が今置かれている状況も見て欲しい。昨季にセルティックからタイトルを奪い、今は再びタイトルを獲得できる絶好のポジションにいる。理想を言うのであれば、シーズン終了までレンジャーズに残って、2つ目のタイトルを手に入れたいだろうね」

「遅かれ早かれ、ジェラードがプレミアリーグのクラブで指揮を執る可能性は大いにあるだろう。そして、もし彼がビラからオファーを受けたとしたら、プレミアリーグでそれ以上のオファーを受けられる可能性はあまりないと思う」

「将来的なリバプールの指揮官就任の話も出てきているが、彼らはユルゲン・クロップとあと2、3年は過ごすだろう。つまり、今回以上の仕事があるとは考えにくく、彼にとっては決断の時だ」

アストン・ビラがスタジアム改修をスタート、ユーロ2028の会場となり5万人収容に変貌へ

コウチーニョがカタール行きに前進、この移籍を最も喜ぶのはバルセロナ?
