試合後、スリーライオンズのレジェンドたちはラッシュフォードの、ボールの手前で細かくステップを刻みGKのタイミングを外すような助走について議論を展開。現役時代にチェルシーでPKキッカーを担っていたフランク・ランパード氏は、プレッシャーのかかる状況で使用するには難しいテクニックだと言及している。

「あのスタイルでPKを蹴ったことはないよ。私は常に自分に合ったPKの蹴り方があると考えているし、ほとんどのキッカーは上手くやっているよ」

「観客のいない練習場ではラッシュフォードのような蹴り方はより簡単となる。だが、この試合がもたらす重圧の中では難しくなる」

「彼(ラッシュフォード)の目がボールに全く向いておらず、GKを見ているのがわかる。(ドンナルンマが逆方向に飛んだのを)確認した後、残念ながらボールを擦りすぎて引っ張ってしまった」

「ただ、あの絶望的で恐ろしい状況の中で、勇気を持って蹴った人を批判することは絶対にできないよ。若者たちが『分かった、PKを蹴る』と言ったことについては評価しなければならない」

「精神的なダメージが残るから、彼らにとっては難しい時期になるだろう。それでも時間が味方してくれるし、きっと乗り越えてくれるはずだ」

そして、リオ・ファーディナンド氏は「どんな蹴り方でも外すことはある」とラッシュフォードを擁護。同様にPKを止められたサカやイタリア代表のMFジョルジーニョについても言及している。

「サカは細かく足踏みすることなく、素早くボールへと向かっていった。それも難しいね」

「ジョルジーニョも(ラッシュフォードと)似たような蹴り方をしていたが、ピックフォードがビッグセーブしてくれたのは幸運だったよ」

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】

「泣きながら電話した」アルコール依存症に苦しむ元イングランド代表ガスコイン氏が家を出て居候に、それでも闘病に決意「戦い続ける」
