ファーディナンド氏、ポグバを絶賛も「ジダンやプラティニは別次元」

マンチェスター・ユナイテッドのレジェンドであるリオ・ファーディナンド氏は、フランス代表MFポール・ポグバを同国の英雄たちと比較するには早すぎると『Goal』に語った。

フランス代表は、ロシア・ワールドカップで1998年フランス大会以来の優勝に大きな期待が掛かっている。各ポジションに豪華メンバーが名を連ねるチームでも中心となるポグバだが、ピッチ内外の行動に批判を受けることも多い。

しかしユナイテッドの先輩でもあるファーディナンド氏は、この25歳のMFの能力はW杯で輝くだけの力があると絶賛した。

「ポグバはW杯を支配する力も持っている。ファンタスティックなプレーヤーだよ」

同時に越えなければならない問題もあると指摘している。

「問題はプレッシャーだ。彼がどうやって国民の期待に答えるか、どうしたらそのプレッシャーに対応することができるのかだ」

「彼は試合で自分の痕跡を残したいと考えるタイプで、そのためにはすべてのことをするよ。間違いなく彼にはその力がある。あとは今大会中にそれを実現することができるかどうかさ」

ポグバを高く評価するファーディナンド氏だが、フランス代表のレジェンドであるミシェル・プラティニやジネディーヌ・ジダンとの比較について聞かれると次のように答えた。

「プラティニやジダンと比べるには早すぎるさ。彼らは違う世界に行ってしまったんだ。プラティニは欧州選手権で優勝し、ユヴェントスでも多くのタイトルを獲得した。ジダンはW杯と欧州選手権を制覇し、クラブでも結果を残した。今では監督としても成功しているしね」

「まだ比較はできないさ。彼らのような選手と比較できるまで、ポグバにはまだまだ時間が残されている」
