マンチェスター・ユナイテッドのレジェンドであるリオ・ファーディナンド氏は、フランス代表MFポール・ポグバを同国の英雄たちと比較するには早すぎると『Goal』に語った。
フランス代表は、ロシア・ワールドカップで1998年フランス大会以来の優勝に大きな期待が掛かっている。各ポジションに豪華メンバーが名を連ねるチームでも中心となるポグバだが、ピッチ内外の行動に批判を受けることも多い。
しかしユナイテッドの先輩でもあるファーディナンド氏は、この25歳のMFの能力はW杯で輝くだけの力があると絶賛した。
「ポグバはW杯を支配する力も持っている。ファンタスティックなプレーヤーだよ」
同時に越えなければならない問題もあると指摘している。
「問題はプレッシャーだ。彼がどうやって国民の期待に答えるか、どうしたらそのプレッシャーに対応することができるのかだ」
「彼は試合で自分の痕跡を残したいと考えるタイプで、そのためにはすべてのことをするよ。間違いなく彼にはその力がある。あとは今大会中にそれを実現することができるかどうかさ」

マテラッツィ、ジダンとの“頭突き事件”を引き起こした侮辱発言の真相を明かす
