イングランド代表MFジュード・ベリンガム(ドルトムント)への賛辞が相次いでいる。

ベリンガムは[4-2-3-1]の2セントラルMFの一角として先発出場。35分には先制点となるヘディングを沈め、試合終了間際にはジャック・グリーリッシュ(マンチェスター・シティ)のゴールの起点となるスルーパスを通した。

得点に絡んだだけでなく、中盤で至る所に顔を出してチームの潤滑油に。イギリス『サン』は「パス95本中、失敗は3本だけ。(総パスの)うち13本がアタッキングサードへ到達している」と、攻撃のキーにもなっていたこと、またその正確性を紹介している。

『BBC』ではラジオの解説を務めた元イングランド代表MFジャーメイン・ジェナス氏のコメントを紹介。スリーライオンズ屈指のタレントを例に出し、「ベリンガムは本当に何でもできる、スティーブン・ジェラードとフランク・ランパードが1つになったようなものだ。ガレス・サウスゲイトにとって、今のような形で彼を獲得できたことは本当にボーナスだ」と、19歳のMFを絶賛した。

2000年以降に生まれた選手として、初めてW杯で得点した選手となったベリンガムは、イングランドサッカー協会(FA)のサイトで「本当に誇りに思える瞬間です」と喜びを語っている。

「(ルーク)・ショーのボールが素晴らしかったので、フリックするだけでよかった。浮き気味になってゴールまで時間があったので、外しちゃったかと思ったけどね」

「どこが対戦相手であっても、W杯で6ゴールというのは印象的だ。(イランは)タフでこじ開けるのは難しかったけれど、本当にうまくいった。2失点はもったいなかったけれど」

好スタートを切ったイングランドは、25日にアメリカ代表、29日にウェールズ代表と対戦。中盤で輝きを放つベリンガムのさらなる活躍にも注目が集まる。

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】
