イグレシアスは2017年夏のレアル・サラゴサ加入から点取屋としての才能を光らせ、エスパニョールでのプレーを挟み、2019年8月にベティス入り。代表からは縁遠い存在だったが、この代表ウィークでフル代表から初めて声がかかった。

だが、チームは今年11月にカタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)が迫り、選手間の競争もよりシビアに。そのなかでの代表入りとなったイグレシアスだが、あまり気負うことなく、活動に参加できているようだ。
「テストされる感覚というよりも、自分の力を近くで発揮するチャンスだと思っている。代表チームでは楽しめているよ。W杯までは長い道のりだし、この先がどうなるかなんてわからない。可能性がある限り、頑張るよ」

また、「監督に自分が選択肢の1つになれるのを示すだけ」と続けると、ベティスのマヌエル・ペジェグリーニ監督とスペイン代表のルイス・エンリケ監督についても述べている。
「どっちもすごく良いものがあって、違うものもある。マヌエルは穏やかだね。ルイス・エンリケはより激しくて、もっと神経質だけど、メッセージは同じように伝わってくる。それぞれの人となりは特別なものがある」

そんな29歳だが、24日のUEFAネーションズリーグ・リーグA・グループ2第5節のスイス代表戦は自身にとっても馴染み深いサラゴサが舞台に。古巣のファンに対する思いを語っている。

「あの場に戻って、一緒にこの時間を楽しめるのは光栄なこと。感動的な瞬間を味わえそうだね。僕のことをすごく大切に思って、色々な形でそれを示してくれた。僕がどう変わったか? 試合や成熟度だったりで進歩したよ」

モロッコの国家的プロジェクト…ブラヒム&16歳ヤマルに政府高官が接触、自国にルーツの海外出身選手でA代表強化へ
