元アイルランド代表MFのロイ・キーン氏がユーロ2020決勝で散ったイングランド代表に苦言を呈した。イギリス『ミラー』が伝えている。

イングランドは11日に行われたユーロ2020決勝でイタリア代表と対戦。1-1のスコアのまま延長戦でも決着がつかずにPK戦へ突入すると、FWハリー・ケイン、DFハリー・マグワイアはしっかり決めたものの、FWマーカス・ラッシュフォード、MFジェイドン・サンチョ、FWブカヨ・サカが続けざまに外し、2-3で敗れた。

勝てば史上初となるユーロ優勝を成し遂げられたものの、準優勝で大会を終えたイングランド。イギリス『ITV』に出演のキーン氏はPKキッカーの選出に不満を露わにし、サンチョやサカら若い選手ではなく、より経験豊富なFWラヒーム・スターリングやMFジャック・グリーリッシュが蹴るべきだったと語った。

「私がスターリングやグリーリッシュなら、若い選手たちに自分より前に蹴らせるようなことはしないよ。彼らは若手より多くフットボールを知っており、たくさんの試合をして経験を積んできた」

「スターリングはこれまでトロフィーも勝ち取ってきた。彼が準備できていなかったとは思わない。ガレス(・サウスゲイト)は6番手、7番手として考えていたのかもしれないが、その場に座っているなんてできないだろう」

「彼らは若手に言わなければならなかった。『聞いてくれ。自分たちが先に蹴る』とね」

また、キーン氏はガレス・サウスゲイト監督がPKの人選について、トレーニングの時点であらかじめ決めていたとコメントしたことについても反論。特に、PKではその場の雰囲気を重視すべきだと持論を語った。

「私にとって、興味深いのはこうした事態は計画していたと言う人が存在することだ。スポーツサイエンスやデータを使っても、こうした環境の再現などできない。巨大な決勝戦、サポーターの前、目の前にいる巨大なGKの再現など不可能なのだから」

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】

イングランド代表のユニフォームが変? ファンが気づいた異変はベテランキットマンのまさかのミス…「間違ってしまった」

「泣きながら電話した」アルコール依存症に苦しむ元イングランド代表ガスコイン氏が家を出て居候に、それでも闘病に決意「戦い続ける」
