ドイツ代表は3月31日、カタール・ワールドカップ欧州予選グループJ第3節で北マケドニア代表とのホーム戦に臨んだ。
3月25日に行われたアイスランド代表戦は3-0、同28日に行われたルーマニア代表戦でも1-0と勝利して2連勝スタートとしたドイツ。しかし、この試合では序盤からパフォーマンスが悪く、なかなかチャンスを作れない。
すると前半アディショナルタイムにゴラン・パンデフに先制を許し、1点ビハインドで後半へ。63分にイルカイ・ギュンドアンがPKを決めて同点とするも、その後もパフォーマンスが上がらないと、85分にエリフ・エルマスに勝ち越しゴールを許す。
結局これが決勝点となり、1-2で敗戦。北マケドニアに金星を与えることとなった。

批判も受けたドイツ代表ユニフォームに問題…ナチスの「SS」に類似との指摘を受け「4」のフォントを変更、アディダスは購入中止に

ドイツのレジェンド・バラック氏が21歳モデルとキス…新恋人は2年前に他界した息子の親友
