プレミアリーグは、ラマダン期間中に開催される試合に関して、選手、スタッフの健康状態への配慮からクーリングブレイクのような一時中断を計画しているようだ。
今月22日から4月21日までムスリム(イスラム教徒)の間では、ラマダンが実施される。
イスラム暦で9月を意味するラマダンは、ムスリムにとって“聖なる月”とされており、自制と規律が求められるこの期間にムスリムは夜明けから日暮れまでの間、一切飲食物を口にすることができない。
そして、フットボール界においても多くの敬虔なムスリムはサウムの期間にその教えを忠実に守り、たとえトレーニング中や試合中においても飲食物を口にすることはない。
この期間におけるコンディション調整を熟知しているベテラン選手はさほど気を遣ったサポートは必要ないが、基礎代謝が高く同期間における経験値が少ない若手選手にとってはパフォーマンスに大きな影響を及ぼすものとなる。
プレミアリーグではチェルシーのMFエンゴロ・カンテ、リバプールのFWモハメド・サラー、マンチェスター・シティのMFイルカイ・ギュンドアンといったスター選手を初め、多くの選手がその制限を受ける形となっている。
そういった中、近年多様性への理解が進むフットボール界において、イングランドのプレミアリーグとフットボールリーグ(EFL)は、クーリングブレイクのような形で選手、スタッフに日没後に飲水、栄養補給を行うための一時的な試合中断を検討しているという。
『ESPN』によると、各リーグ管理者と審判協会のPGMOLは、ラマダン期間にクラブがチームシートを交換する際、影響を受ける選手やスタッフがいるかどうかを調査するよう当局に通知したという。
そして、断食中の選手、クラブスタッフ、試合関係者がピッチサイドで、飲水やエネルギーサプリメントを摂取できるように、自然な形でのプレーの停止を実施する見込みだ。
これまでイスラム圏のリーグ戦では試合開始時間、同様のブレイクを採り入れていたが、ヨーロッパでは各試合において審判団の裁量で試合を一時的にストップする配慮がなされていたが、リーグ全体での決定となれば、画期的な試みとなるはずだ。

そんななか、元アーセナルMFは23日、旧知のレジェップ・タイイップ・エルドアン大統領が創設した公正発展党(AKP)の議員に選出され、中央決定執行委員会の一員となった。
エジル氏は現役時代からエルドアン大統領と親しい関係にあり、2019年に結婚式を行った際には同大統領が付添人として出席していた。
また、ドイツ代表としてロシア・ワールドカップ(W杯)に参加する直前には、当時エバートンに在籍していたトルコ代表FWジェンク・トスン、マンチェスター・シティのドイツ代表MFイルカイ・ギュンドアンとともにロンドンで面会。
その際に撮られた記念写真が公となったことで、反エルドアン大統領派のドイツ国民やドイツサッカー連盟(DFB)から非難を浴び、この一件が代表引退に大きな影響を与えていた。

マンチェスター・シティのドイツ代表MFイルカイ・ギュンドアンに第1子が誕生した。
ギュンドアンは、2020年からモデルのサラ・アルファウイさんと交際し、2021年12月に結婚。サラさんは身長170cmのモデルで、イタリアのテレビ番組にも出演。イタリア語、フランス語、英語、アラビア語を話すことができるという。
2人は2022年11月に第1子の妊娠を発表し、待望の第1子出産が迫る中ギュンドアンは今月のドイツ代表の活動に参加しないことが決まっていたが、15日に無事男の子が生まれたようだ。
2人は16日にそれぞれのインスタグラムを更新。「私たち愛がここに カイス・ギュンドアン 15.3.23」のコメントととともに、生まれたばかりのカイスくんを抱きしめる写真を投稿し、出産を報告している。

マンチェスター・シティのドイツ代表MFイルカイ・ギュンドアン(31)が、交際していたモデルのサラ・アルファウイさん(26)と婚約したことを発表した。それぞれのSNSで伝えている。
ドルトムントで台頭したギュンドアンは2016年夏にシティへと加入。移籍初年度こそはケガに悩まされたものの、ジョゼップ・グアルディオラ監督の信頼を掴み、昨シーズンは公式戦46試合に出場して17ゴール5アシストと躍動した。
2011年にデビューを飾ったドイツ代表ではここまで通算54試合に出場。今夏行われたユーロ2020でもグループリーグの3試合に先発出場していた。
そのユーロ直後に交際を発表した2人だが、その後も順調に愛を育んでいたようで、9日にSNSを更新。たくさんのバラとハートのバルーンに囲まれた部屋でプロポーズするシーンとともに、婚約指輪をサラさんの左手薬指にはめた写真を投稿している。
ドイツ『ビルト』によると、サラさんは身長170cmのモデルで、イタリアのテレビ番組にも出演。イタリア語、フランス語、英語、アラビア語を話すことができるという。

モデルのサラさんは、ユーロ2020直後にギュンドアンとの交際を発表。2021年12月に婚約すると、5月には結婚したことも発表していた。
サラさんは自身のインスタグラムのストーリーズでファンの質問に回答。「マンチェスターでのお気に入りのレストラン」を問われたが、その答えが一部の人々の反感を買うことに。フランス生まれイタリア育ちのサラさんは正直に答えている。
「すみません。悲しいですが正直何もありません。本格的なイタリアンやおいしい寿司、新鮮な食べ物が見つからないの...すべて冷凍食品です」
「ここのレストランはナイトクラブのようにドリンクとショットでお金を稼ぐことにフォーカスしており、質の高い料理はありません。ロンドンでは違うかもしれませんが、マンチェスターには何もありません。ごめんなさい.」
『サン』によると、この発言に地元のレストランのオーナーや評論家が怒り心頭だという。
なお、マンチェスターにはシティのジョゼップ・グアルディオラ監督が共同出資したカタルーニャ料理のレストランもあり、2019年にはミシュランの星も獲得している。
