あと一歩だが、その一歩が遠いということを今回も味わうこととなってしまった日本。それが世界との間にある、まだ埋められない差なのだろう。 3日、東京オリンピック男子サッカー準決勝。53年ぶりのメダル獲得を目指すU-24日本代表は、金メダル候補筆頭のU-24スペイン代表との一戦に臨んだ。 下馬評は完全にスペイン有利。ユーロ2020にも出場した6選手や、ヨーロッパの高いレベルでレギュラーを張る選手ばかり。市場価値で見ても7倍もの差がある相手だった。 正直なところ、日本に関係する人以外は、スペインが勝利するものだと思っていただろう。日本が善戦するとすら思われていなかったかもしれない。延長戦に行ったことすら予想外と思う人も多いだろう。 共に準々決勝は120分間の戦いを強いられた。スペインはスコアこそ5-2となったが、90分の戦いではほぼ負けていた。そこから奇跡を起こし延長戦へ持ち込み、相手のミスに乗じて得点を重ねた。 一方の日本は、U-24ニュージーランド代表の堅い守備の前にゴールを奪えず。しっかりと相手の攻撃に対応して戦ったが、延長戦ではあわやというシーンを作られるなど、なんとか凌ぎ、PK戦で準決勝に駒を進めた。この時点で両者には差があったとも言え、そこが決勝への道を逃した差とも言えるだろう。 <span class="paragraph-title">◆スペインを苦しめたという事実</span> <div style="text-align:center;"><img src="https://image.ultra-soccer.jp/1200/img/2021/jpn20210804_1_tw.jpg" style="max-width: 100%;"></div><div style="text-align:right;font-size:small;" id="cws_ad" class="desc">Getty Images<hr></div> 準決勝の日本の戦いぶりは世界を驚かせたと言えるだろう。試合は終始スペインがボールを握り、主導権を掴んだまま推移した。日本は基本的に自陣でのプレーが続き、スペインの攻撃を耐え忍んだという状況だ。 この日は、DF吉田麻也、DF板倉滉、GK谷晃生と中央を守る3名が集中したプレーを継続。その他の選手たちも、ボールを奪いに行くチャレンジとカバーリングを的確にこなし、スペインに決定機をほとんど作らせない試合運びを見せた。 攻撃と守備。両者の構図がこうなることは予想でき、それが今の実力。いかに耐えて、少ないチャンスをモノにできるかしか、日本の勝機がなかったのは織り込み済みだった。 そういった点では、失点した115分まで守り抜いたことは評価すべきだろう。一度はPKの判定となった吉田のファウルも、正当なタックルだったが、VARがなければPKだった。ミスからFWラファ・ミルが決定機を数回迎えたが、GK谷の素晴らしい判断でゴールを許さなかった。 一方で、攻撃面ではゴールが生まれそうなチャンスは120分を通して数える程。特に後半と、延長戦でカウンターから何度かチャンスを作りかけたが、簡単には割らせてくれなかった。ゴールを決められるかどうかという部分では、やはりスペインが一枚手。そこが埋め切れない差となったことは紛れも無い事実となった。 <span class="paragraph-title">◆思い出される3年前</span> <div style="text-align:center;"><img src="https://image.ultra-soccer.jp/1200/img/2021/jpn20210804_2_tw.jpg" style="max-width: 100%;"></div><div style="text-align:right;font-size:small;" id="cws_ad" class="desc">Getty Images<hr></div> あと少しでPK戦に突入するかと思われたタイミングでのFWマルコ・アセンシオのゴール。あのシーンを見て思い出されるのは、2018年のロシア・ワールドカップ、ラウンド16のベルギー代表戦だろう。 原口元気、乾貴士のゴールで2点を先行した日本だったが、高さを生かしたプレーに切り替えたベルギーの前に2失点。それでも粘り強く戦い、3点目を許さずに戦っていた。 誰もが延長戦にもつれ込むと思った中、試合の最後に悲劇が。日本のCKを相手GKティボー・クルトワにキャッチされると、そこからベルギーはカウンターを発動。そのままナセル・シャドゥリが決め、3-2でベルギーが逆転勝利した。まさに、似たような展開が、東京五輪の準決勝でも起こってしまった。 あの悔しさを3年越しにまた経験してしまった日本。決して成長していないということを言いたい訳ではない。しかし、それが世界との差であり、3年が経過して90分ではやらせなかったが、120分ではやられてしまったというのが事実だ。 ただ、この試合の審判はあまりプレーを流さないというジャッジングだった。吉田が一度はPKを取られたシーンも、こぼれ球をラファ・ミルが拾っており、そのまま流されていたらゴールだった可能性はある。 一方で日本もやり返すチャンスがあり、後半終了前のラストプレーではMF堂安律がドリブルで中央突破。完全に相手のMFマルティン・スビメンディが後ろから両手で掴んで止めたシーンがあった。 このシーン、堂安が倒された場合でも、MF久保建英、FW上田綺世がおり、日本の人数は足りていた。プレーが流されれば、もしかしたら日本がカウンターを完結させられていたかもしれない。タラレバにはなるが、ジャッジを流そうというプレーを選択できていればというシーンだった。スビメンディの必死な止め方を見れば、スペインも追い込まれたという感覚を持ったプレーだっただろう。 <span class="paragraph-title">◆一瞬の隙を仕留めるスペインの真の力</span> <div style="text-align:center;"><img src="https://image.ultra-soccer.jp/1200/img/2021/jpn20210804_3_tw.jpg" style="max-width: 100%;"></div><div style="text-align:right;font-size:small;" id="cws_ad" class="desc">Getty Images<hr></div> 「全て出し切った」と試合後に久保はコメントした。それは本心だろう。互角に渡りあえたというよりは、なんとかスペインについていったという形。日本は無理をしなければ、同等レベルでは戦えないということだろう。 もちろん、スペインの選手に余裕があったとは思わない。ただ、攻め続ける側と守り続ける側では、やはりかかる負荷は異なる。そこから日本が押し出して、攻撃に転じられなかったというところもまだまだ力の差があるということだ。 では、あの失点はなぜ起こったのか。ゴールを決めたアセンシオのシュートも褒められるべきだが、ポイントはその前のプレー。FWミケル・オヤルサバルの仕掛けだろう。 失点シーンを振り返ると、スローインを受けたオヤルサバルが縦に仕掛けると、DF中山雄太とMF田中碧が寄せに行く。その中山がマークしていたアセンシオは中山が前に出ようとしたことを受けて後ろに下がると、オヤルサバルが間を通してパス。アセンシオはターンしたまま左足を振り抜いた。 これにはMF遠藤航も慌てて寄せに行くが間に合わず、DF板倉滉もアセンシオに寄せに行けなかった結果がゴールとなった。 このゴール。集中していた日本のDFが気を抜いたのかと言われればそういうわけではないだろう。カバーリングが遅れたが、それには布石があった。 ゴールが決まる1つ前のプレーでオヤルサバルが右サイドを突破したことがカギだと考えられる。 スローインになる前、オヤルサバルが右サイドを突破した。中央へ折り返したが、これは通らず。日本がクリアした。このシーンが印象づいた結果、得点シーンではオヤルサバルがスローインを受けた後、縦への突破からのクロスを警戒したはずだ。 その結果、アセンシオについていた中山がオヤルサバルの縦を切りに行こうとしたが、その間を通されてアセンシオにパスを通されたのだ。 もちろん、中山の判断が間違ったとは言えない。オヤルサバルについていってもパスは出されていただろう。田中がついていっ多としても、間に合った可能性は低い。オヤルサバルがボールを持った時にアセンシオがマークを外し、自身がシュートを打てるポジションを取った。それを見たオヤルサバルが冷静にパスを通した。個人の技量もあるが、チームとしてオートマチックに動け、それを共有したプレー判断の結果だと言える。 日本はチームとして戦い抜いて、粘りを見せて115分間は耐えた。しかし、それを上回るチームプレーを見せ続けたのはスペイン。さらに、局面での個の能力でも上回った。まだまだ世界との差はあるというのが事実だろう。 オリンピックはあくまでも世代別の戦い。メダルを目指して戦うことは当然だが、サッカー界で言えばワールドカップこそ頂点。1年半後の戦いで日本は何を見せられるのか。2018年、2021年と世界との差を土壇場で味わった選手たちのここからの奮起に期待するとともに、9年前のロンドン・オリンピックのようにならず、しっかりと銅メダル獲得を果たしてくれることを願うばかりだ。 《超ワールドサッカー編集部・菅野剛史》 2021.08.04 18:15 Wed

「脳震盪?」カリウスのミスの原因にクルトワが疑問符「それは奇妙だ」

ユーベ退団のキエッリーニ、堅守の“BBC”を振り返る「歴史の一部だった」

ボヌッチ、ミランでの“黒歴史”を回想…慎重に言葉を選ぶもミラニスタを傷つける?
