世界最高の選手とは…DFでただ1人バロンドールを2度受賞した“皇帝”フランツ・ベッケンバウアー

いつの時代であっても、“最高のサッカー選手”というのはファンの間で話題になる。

一番ゴールを決めた選手なのか、最もテクニックがある選手なのか、それともタイトルを一番獲っている選手なのか。見る人1人1人の好みもあり、“最高”という言葉で括るには基準がたくさんありすぎる状況だ。

そんな中、1956年にフランスのサッカー専門誌『フランス・フットボール』によって創設されたのが、世界の年間最優秀選手に送られる“バロンドール”だ。

11月29日には2021年の受賞者が発表され、パリ・サンジェルマン(PSG)のアルゼンチン代表FWリオネル・メッシが受賞した。史上最多の7度目、2位のポルトガル代表FWクリスティアーノ・ロナウド(マンチェスター・ユナイテッド)の5回に2つ差をつけることとなった。

この選出には、多くの意見が噴出。2位に終わったバイエルンのポーランド代表FWロベルト・レヴァンドフスキがふさわしいという声が多く、事前の予想でもレヴァンドフスキが受賞するという声も多かったが、メッシへと手渡され、レヴァンドフスキは新設された「ストライカー・オブ・ザ・イヤー」を受賞することとなった。

早いもので、西ドイツが生んだ偉大なフットボーラーであるフランツ・ベッケンバウアー氏が亡くなってから一年が経とうとしている(24年1月8日に逝去。78歳)。現役時代は「皇帝」のニックネームで尊敬を集め、守備だけでなく攻撃にも自由に参加する「リベロ」という概念を確立した。 W杯は66年イングランド大会で準優勝、70年メキシコ大会は3位、そして自国開催となった74年西ドイツ大会では母国に2度目となるトロフィーをもたらした。監督(肩書きはチームシェフ)として86年メキシコ大会こそディエゴ・マラドーナ率いるアルゼンチンに敗れて準優勝に甘んじたが、90年イタリア大会ではアルゼンチンに雪辱を果たし、選手と監督でW杯を制した2人目という偉業を達成した。同じく選手と監督でW杯に優勝したブラジルの名将マリオ・ザガロ氏も24年1月5日にこの世を去り(享年92歳)、選手・監督でW杯に優勝したのはディディエ・デシャン1人になった。さらに昨年10月6日には、西ドイツW杯決勝でベッケンバウアー氏と好勝負を演じたオランダのヨハン・ニースケン氏も逝去した(73歳)。西ドイツとの決勝戦での先制点、ゴール中央に強シュートを突き刺した衝撃は今でも忘れられない。彼のシュートは、それまで左右のスミを狙うのが常識だったPKに、新たな発想をもたらしたのではなだろうか(パネンカのチップキックによるPKも伝説だ)。すでに2016年3月24日には、もう一人の“ヨハン”であるクライフ氏も亡くなっている。「トータルフットボール」の具現者として世界に衝撃を与えただけでなく、指導者としてバルセロナでは超攻撃的なスタイルを確立。現在のバルサの礎を築いたと言っても過言ではないだろう。彼の出現で背番号「14」は特別な番号になったはずだ。そんなレジェンドの1人である「皇帝」の功績を称え、昨年12月20日、ドイツサッカーリーグ機構(DFL)は25～26シーズンからDFLスーパーカップの名称にフランツ・ベッケンバウアー氏の名前を冠することを発表した。すでにバイエルン・ミュンヘンはベッケンバウアー氏の現役時代の背番号「5」を永久欠番にすると発表していた。それに続き、シーズン開幕前にブンデスリーガ優勝クラブとDFBポカール優勝クラブが激突する大会の名称が「フランツ・ベッケンバウアー・スーパーカップ」に変更されることになった。かつてW杯のトロフィーは、ブラジルが70年メキシコ大会で3度目の優勝を果たし、永久保持するまでは、W杯の提唱者であるフランス人の「ジュール・リメ杯」と呼ばれていた(74年以降は特別な名称はない)。同じくEUROのトロフィーも提唱者であるフランス人の名前をとって「アンリ・ドロネー杯」と呼ばれていた。しかし公式戦の名前に選手個人の名前が冠されるのは今回が初めてではないだろうか。近年の大会名にはネーミングライツ権を売ることで、企業の名前が冠されることが一般的になりつつある。そんななかで、今回のDFLの英断に拍手を送ると同時に、今年8月16日の大会では古巣バイエルンの復活にも期待したい。文・六川亨 2025.01.04 11:00 Sat

1月18日、19日の両日、熊本で開催された第14回フットボールカンファレンスにズームで参加した。このカンファレンスは基本的に指導者向けで有料のため、オブザーバーはSNSでの発信を禁じられている。このため「指導者育成システム」の講義内容を紹介することはできない。そのカンファレンスの冒頭、司会を務めた影山雅永JFA技術委員長は23~24年に他界したサッカー界のレジェンドたちを追悼するため黙祷を行った。ボビー・チャールトン、マリオ・ザガロ、フランツ・ベッケンバウアー、アンドレアス・ブレーメ、ルイス・メノッティ、クリストフ・ダウム、ゴラン・エリクソン、サルバトーレ・スキラッチ、ヨハン・ニースケンスら60年代から90年代にかけて活躍した選手・監督たち。そして日本人では日本代表や三菱のチームドクターとしてパイオニア的な存在だった大畠襄ドクター、70年のメキシコW杯で線審を務め、日本人初のW杯審判員を務めた丸山義行レフェリー、フジタ工業(現湘南)でJSLや天皇杯に優勝し、平塚や群馬の監督を歴任した植木繁晴氏、清水東高校の勝沢要監督、大宮や札幌で活躍したものの昨年1月に38歳の若さで逝去した横山知伸氏、そして昨年末に99歳で亡くなられたフリージャーナリストの賀川浩氏へ哀悼の意を表した。そして19日、スコットランド代表で、マンチェスター・ユナイテッドの黄金時代を築いたFWデニス・ロー氏の訃報が飛び込んできた。84歳だった。ロー氏はハダースフィールドでプロのキャリアをスタートさせると、マンチェスター・シティ、トリノを経てユナイテッドに加入。リーグ優勝に加えFAカップ制覇、そしてユナイテッド初のチャンピオンズ・カップ(現CL)優勝にも貢献。ポジションはいまでいうシャドーストライカーで、エレガントなプレースタイルからゴールを量産し、ジョージ・ベストのクロスから鮮やかなヘディングシュートを決めるシーンを「ダイヤモンドサッカー」で見た記憶がある。ユナイテッドでは通算400試合以上に出場し、237ゴールを記録。スコットランド代表でも55試合に出場し、ケニー・ダルグリッシュと並ぶスコットランド代表歴代最多となる30得点を記録した。スコットランド代表の選手としてただ一人、64年にバロンドールも受賞している。そしてシティとユナイテッドの両チームでプレーした初めての選手でもあった。 W杯の出場は74年西ドイツ大会の1回だけだったのは、やはり英国4協会で別々に予選を戦ったため“世界の壁”は厚かったということだろう。当時のロー氏はすでに34歳。初戦のザイール戦こそスタメン出場を果たし、ピーター・ロリマーとジョー・ジョーダンのゴールで2-0と勝ったものの、ブラジルと0-0、ユーゴスラビアと1-1の結果、得失点差でグループリーグ敗退を余儀なくされ、ロー氏のW杯出場は1試合で終わった。この大会にイングランドは出場していなかったが、ロングボール主体のキック&ラッシュとは違い、ショートパスをつないで攻めるスコットランドのスタイルは新鮮な驚きだった。ジョージ・ベストと並んでアイドルだったロー氏に初めて会ったのは1990年イタリアW杯だった。決勝トーナメント1回戦のアルゼンチン対ブラジル戦を取材にトリノのデッレ・アルピ・スタジアムへ行ったときのことだ。アルプスからの冷たい風が吹き付けるスタジアムだったが、プレスルームのカフェでロー氏はエスプレッソを飲んでいた。思わず声をかけて写真撮影をお願いすると笑顔で応えてくれた。現役時代と変わらない柔和で人懐こい笑顔はいまでも忘れられない。 2025.01.20 13:00 Mon

「素晴らしい」「本当にかっこいい」バイエルンが赤と金の125周年記念ユニフォームを発表! アクセス殺到でサーバーがパンク「注文できない」

29歳で引退した元W杯王者の転身が話題!ほぼ裸で雪山に登頂、自分の人生を見直すきっかけに

カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)では、日本代表とも対戦するドイツ代表だが、その“愛称”について議論がなされている。 2014年のブラジルW杯では優勝を果たしているドイツ代表。チームの愛称として「Die Mannschaft(ディー・マンシャフト)」が採用されている。これはW杯制覇後の2015年にドイツ代表のマネージャーを務めるオリバー・ビアホフ氏が呼称として導入したもの。意味は「これがチームだ」というものだが、廃止の方向で話が進んでいる。ドイツサッカー連盟(DFB)のベルント・ノイエンドルフ会長は、この呼称について終わる可能性があることを20日にコメント。7月末に結論を出すという。「終わりが来る。7月末に責任機関の会合が開かれ、決定が確実に下される。終わりのない話には興味がない」「今回の定性調査では、我々のイメージを固め、意見をまとめることができるはずだ。ただ、調査に依存することはない」この言葉の生みの親とも言われるビアホフ氏は「我慢すれば良い」と会長の決定を受け入れることを示唆。日本と対戦するときにはもう使われない愛称となっていそうだ。 2022.06.21 14:30 Tue

ドイツのレジェンド・バラック氏が21歳モデルとキス…新恋人は2年前に他界した息子の親友
