5日、U-21イングランド代表はU-21ユーロ2023準決勝でU-21イスラエル代表と対戦。[4-4-2]の2トップの一角で先発したMFモルガン・ギブス=ホワイトは17分にPKを外すも、0-0で迎えた42分、MFコール・パーマーからのクロスに頭で合わせ、先制点を叩き込む。

すると、後半はパーマーが躍動する。63分に自ら追加点を決めと、終了間際の90分には勝利を決定づけるFWキャメロン・アーチャーの3点目をアシスト。パーマーの1ゴール2アシストで3-0と勝利したイングランドがU-21スペイン代表との決戦戦に駒を進めた。
イギリス『サン』は、7大会・14年ぶりとなる決勝戦進出を掴んだこの一戦への称賛を惜しまない。

ギブス=ホワイトのPK失敗からの先制点については「かつてのイングランドならチーム全体がPK失敗に動揺し、ここで敗退していた」と主張。ユーロ2021決勝戦でPK失敗という悔しさをバネに成長したアーセナルのMFブカヨ・サカ、マンチェスター・ユナイテッドのFWマーカス・ラッシュフォードの存在もあってか、代表選手のメンタリティが向上しているとの見解を示している。
また、リー・カーズリー監督率いるチームのポゼッションサッカーを「見ていて楽しい」と称え、ギブス=ホワイトと2トップを組んだFWアンソニー・ゴードン、さらにサイドハーフで先発したパーマー、MFエミール・スミス・ロウらが織りなすアタッキングを「本当に素晴らしかった」と論じた。

イングランドがU-21ユーロを最後に制したのは1984年の第4回大会。決勝戦がホーム&アウェイで争われたこの時の対戦相手もスペインだった。若き才能が躍動するイングランドは39年ぶりのメジャータイトルを獲得できるだろうか。

ちなみに、U-22日本代表は先月に行われたヨーロッパ遠征の際に同チームと親善試合を戦い、MF山本理仁とMF松村優太のゴールによって2-0の勝利を収めていた。

ブリッジは“不倫男”テリーを未だに許さず? 自身の近くに引っ越し発覚後、自宅を売却に出す

元イングランド代表DFのウェイン・ブリッジ氏は、チェルシー時代に自身の元恋人と不倫関係にあった元イングランド代表DFのジョン・テリー氏を未だに許してないのかもしれない。イギリス『サン』が報じている。 ブリッジ氏とテリー氏は、同じ39歳でチェルシーとイングランド代表で共闘してきた親友だった。しかし、2010年1月にブリッジ氏が当時交際し、1人の息子をもうけていたヴァネッサ・プロンセルと、既婚のテリー氏に不倫疑惑が持ち上がり、両者の関係は完全に破綻。 この騒動がキッカケでテリー氏はイングランド代表キャプテンをはく奪され、ブリッジ氏も“不倫男”との共闘を望まず、代表辞退という重い決断を下していた。 さらに、不倫問題発覚後、初の直接対決となった試合では当時マンチェスター・シティに在籍していたブリッジ氏が、試合前の握手を拒否。さらに、シティのチームメイトだった元アルゼンチン代表FWカルロス・テベスが、得点直後にテリー氏の前に立ちはだかってブリッジ氏を指さすパフォーマンスを見せるなど、大きな話題をさらっていた。 その後、ブリッジ氏は2013年に現在の妻であるイギリス人歌手のフランキーサンド・フォードさんと結婚し、2人の息子を授かっている。 その事件から10年が経った今年に入って両氏は、再びメディアの話題に挙がることに。 『サン』が伝えるところによれば、テリー氏は今年4月にロンドン近郊のサリーに430万ポンド(約6億円)の邸宅を購入し、すでに引っ越しも済ませているという。 そして、その新居から数分の距離にはブリッジ氏と家族が住む550万ポンド(約7億6000万円)の邸宅があった。 しかし、同メディアによると、ブリッジ夫妻はテリー氏の引っ越しが原因かは不明なものの、現在その自宅を売りに出しているという。 この動きに関してある関係者は、「ウェインとジョンは明らかに最高の友人とは言えない。今は不動産市場に不確実性があるが、ウェインとフランキーは新たなスタートを求めている。そして、現在の場所から少し離れた場所に引っ越しをすることを決めた」と、説明している。 今回の引っ越しは単なる偶然の可能性が高そうだが、ブリッジはやはり“不倫男”を許していないのか…。 2020.08.05 15:02 Wed

シティで序列低下のウォーカーに古巣2クラブが関心、熱心なのはイングランド2部クラブ

「可愛い!」ペガサスに乗って宙を舞うイングランド代表FWサカの衝撃写真が話題沸騰「この男を愛さないわけにはいかない」
