イングランド代表FWハリー・ケイン(28)が代表通算得点数で歴代5位に浮上した。

今夏の移籍騒動に揺れ、最終的に今季もトッテナムでのプレーを決意したケイン。今月の代表ウィークでも代表に呼ばれると、2日に敵地で行われたカタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)欧州予選グループI第4節のハンガリー戦で1ゴールを挙げ、4-0の快勝に貢献した。そして、5日にホームで行われたアンドラ戦ではベンチスタートになったが、62分から出場すると、72分に獲得したPKのチャンスから2戦連発となるゴールを決め、この試合で2得点1アシストの活躍を披露したMFジェシー・リンガードとともに4-0の勝利に導いた。

データ集計サイト『Opta』によると、ケインはこの日の1ゴールで代表通算40得点目に。1998〜2008年まで代表で活躍した“ワンダーボーイ”ことマイケル・オーウェン氏に並ぶ歴代5位に浮上している。

なお、歴代最多は2003〜2018年まで代表でプレーしたウェイン・ルーニー氏の53得点。ケインにとって、直近の目標は1959〜1967年まで代表でプレーしたジミー・グレイブス氏の歴代4位となる44得点だ。

相手が恐れる右手…ストライカーの完成形と呼ばれた男、アラン・シアラー
