オーストラリア代表FWブルーノ・フォルナローリ(36)が代表キャリア続行を希望している。

アジアカップ2023でベスト8敗退のオーストラリア代表。ここからは2026ワールドカップ(W杯)出場を目指してアジア予選に注力していくわけだが、豪『news.com.au』はあるストライカーにスポットを当てる。

それがフォルナローリ。Aリーグ・メンの強豪メルボルン・ビクトリーでエースに君臨し、2023-24シーズンはアジア杯までに10試合13ゴール…リーグ通算では165試合101ゴールという同国屈指の点取り屋だ。
そのキャリアを振り返ると、ルイス・スアレスと少年時代から親友の36歳はウルグアイ出身で、母国ナシオナル、欧州はサンプドリア、パナシナイコスなどを経て、2015年夏にオーストラリアへ。2022年3月の日本代表戦で34歳にしてA代表デビューを飾った帰化選手だ。

カタールW杯メンバーからは落選し、アジア杯2023で約2年ぶりのサプライズ招集となったが、敗退後、「またこのチームに戻ってきたい…選ばれればベストを尽くすし、選ばれるためにもメルボルンで全力を尽くす」と代表キャリア続行希望を明言。アジア杯2023全5試合出場、通算7キャップも、代表初ゴールはお預けとなっている。
焦点を”2026W杯へ”という点に戻そう。

豪代表はフォルナローリがアジア杯2023にサプライズ招集された一方、Aリーグ・メン歴代最多得点者のストライカー、FWジェイミー・マクラーレン(メルボルン・シティ)がまさかの落選。しかし、グラハム・アーノルド監督の[4-2-3-1]or[4-1-2-3]でワントップの1番手を担うは一貫してFWミッチェル・デューク(FC町田ゼルビア)だ。

今大会のストライカー陣を序列順に表記すると、33歳デューク、36歳フォルナローリ、25歳FWクシニ・イェンギ(ポーツマス)、24歳FWジョン・アイルデール(SVヴェーエン・ヴィースバーデン)といったところ。次回の代表活動からは30歳マクラーレンもここに舞い戻ってくるだろう。

そう、豪代表のストライカー陣はベテラン中心となっており、20代のイェンギとアイルデールはそれぞれ今大会2試合0ゴール・出場なし(ベンチ外3試合)とインパクトを残せず。所属クラブもそれぞれイングランド3部・ドイツ2部でどちらも途中出場中心…3部と2部の控えFWなのだ。

イェンギについてはフォルナローリが「いずれ豪代表で“9番”を背負う」とコメントも、『news.com.au』は「イングランド3部でプレーする選手に対して十分すぎるほどの価値観」と辛辣。イェンギは元々サイドハーフが本職で、左でのプレーが評価されて昨夏イングランドへ渡った選手だ。

Aリーグ・メン23-24の得点ランキングに目を移すと、13ゴールの1位フォルナローリに続くオーストラリア人ストライカーは、10ゴールの元U-23豪代表FWアポストロス・スタマテロプロス(24)、9ゴールの元豪代表FWアダム・タガート(30)。元セレッソ大阪のタガートは1年半招集されておらず、声がかかるとしたらスタマテロプロスのほうか。

過去と比較しても仕方のないことだが、やはりマーク・ビドゥカ氏、ティム・ケイヒル氏、ジョン・アロイージ氏に脂が乗っていた2004〜2007年ごろをピークに、オーストラリア代表はストライカーの人選に苦戦している状況だ。

“日本キラー”ケイヒル、オーストラリア代表を引退! 通算成績107試合50ゴール

豪州FWに「英語を話せないふりをした」とユニ交換拒否揶揄されたジルーがナイスな反応!
