クリスタル・パレスのGKディーン・ヘンダーソン(27)が、イングランド代表での定位置確保へ意欲をみせた。

一時期はマンチェスター・ユナイテッドでも継続的にプレーしたヘンダーソン。すったもんだの末にレンタル移籍し、23-24シーズンからはC・パレスへ完全移籍に。今季ここまでプレミアリーグの全27試合にフルタイム出場する。

比較的充実したシーズンを送るなか、来月にはイングランド代表でトーマス・トゥヘル体制が発足予定。ヘンダーソンはイギリス『The Standard』のインタビューにて、GKジョーダン・ピックフォード(エバートン)から1番手を奪取するチャンスがあると語った。
「今シーズンの調子からすると、ピックフォードと互角。違いはほとんどないように思う。彼のイングランド代表への献身と彼に対する尊敬の念を忘れてはならないけど、僕は彼からポジションを奪わなくてはならないんだ」

一方で、現在の自身がトップパフォーマンスではないとも言う。
「いや、全くもってパーフェクトな状態ではない。今季ここまで全ての試合に出ているけど、フルシーズンはおそらく4年ぶりくらいだ。今季を戦い終えてようやく以前の自分を取り戻せると思っているよ。まだやるべきことがある」

イングランド代表のトゥヘル監督初陣は3月21日、2026年ワールドカップ(W杯)欧州予選K組第1節・アルバニア代表戦(H)。24日の第2節・ラトビア代表もホームゲームとなる。

フォレスト、昨季限りで退団したウェールズ代表GKヘネシーと再契約!

元ユナイテッドSDがFAに復帰…新設のチーフ・フットボール・オフィサーに就任

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】

頭部同士が激しく激突、動けず12分間も治療…担架で運ばれたイングランド女子代表DFにはスタンドから拍手

フレッチャーの16歳息子2人、世代別代表でスコットランドとイングランドを行ったり来たり…協会どうしが火花

マンチェスター・ユナイテッドOBの元スコットランド代表MFダレン・フレッチャー氏。その息子2人を巡って水面下で火花が散らされているようだ。 サー・アレックス・ファーガソン監督時代のユナイテッドに欠かせぬ汗かき役だったフレッチャー氏。クラブ通算342試合出場でプレミアリーグ優勝5回、チャンピオンズリーグ(CL)優勝1回、クラブ・ワールドカップ(W杯)優勝1回など数多のタイトルを獲得したレジェンドだ。 スコットランド代表としては通算80キャップを誇る同氏も現役引退から約4年。39歳となった現在は古巣ユナイテッドのテクニカル・ディレクターとして活躍中だ。そして、ジャック・フレッチャー(16)とタイラー・フレッチャー(16)という双子の息子の父親でもある。 ジャックとタイラーは2人とも幼い頃からユナイテッドの宿敵であるマンチェスター・シティの下部組織で成長も、今年8月、2人揃って父が愛し愛されたユナイテッドの門を叩くことに。U-18チームで己に磨きをかけている最中だ。 そんななか、ジャックはU-15イングランド代表として昨年4～5月にかけて3試合に出場し、9月に入ってU-16スコットランド代表入り。しかし、今年に入ってからU-16イングランド代表へと鞍替えし、継続的に招集されるなかで7試合に出場している。 また、タイラーは昨年からU-16スコットランド代表とU-16イングランド代表を行ったり来たり。活動ごとにユニフォームを入れ替えている状況で、今年2月にスコットランドの一員としてイングランド戦に出場も、4月にはイングランドの一員としてU-16日本代表戦に出場した。 マンチェスター生まれの2人はまだ16歳と若く、将来どちらのA代表としてプレーするかを焦って決める必要はない。ただ、イギリス『ミラー』によると、ここ最近のタイラーは再びスコットランドに気持ちが傾いているとのこと。心をイングランドで固めつつあると考えられるジャックと異なり、タイラーはまだ揺れ動く部分が大きいようだ。 その裏では、スコットランドサッカー協会(SFA)とフットボール・アソシエーション(FA/イングランドサッカー協会)がフレッチャー兄弟を巡って火花。A代表入りの可能性が膨らむ数年後を見据え、特大のポテンシャルを奪われないよう、水面下で攻防を続けているとのことだ。 スコットランド代表の元キャプテンを父に持つフレッチャー兄弟。ユナイテッドが宿敵シティからフレッチャー2世の2人を“取り戻す”ために支払った額は125万ポンド(約2億3000万円)で、最後は父自ら息子2人を懸命に説得したと言われている。 2人とも現役時代の父と同じくセントラルハーフ。今はまだプロデビュー前の16歳だが、フレッチャー兄弟を巡る注目度はこれからどんどん高まり、スコットランドとイングランドの綱引きも激化していくことだろう。 2023.10.25 17:09 Wed
