サン=ジロワーズは9日にベルギーの首都ブリュッセルにて行われた決勝でアントワープと対戦。今季の公式戦42試合に出場して、主力と化す町田浩樹はこの試合もセンターバックとしてフル出場した。

試合は互いに譲らずの攻防戦が続くなか、0-0のままハーフタイム目前に。3バックの一角として守りで貢献する町田だが、均衡を破るだけでなく、タイトルに大きなゴールを決める。

45+1分にサン=ジロワーズが右CKのチャンスを獲得すると、ニアのグスタフ・ニルソンが頭でそらしたボールを中央に詰める町田が左足で押し込み、今季2ゴール目を記録した。

前半のうちに試合を動かしたサン=ジロワーズはこの町田の値千金弾で1-0の勝利を掴み、通算3度目のベルギーカップ優勝。実に1913-14シーズン以来、110年ぶりとなる。

今夏のプレミアリーグ挑戦が取り沙汰されるなか、チームを歓喜に導き、ベルギーで初タイトルの町田。このままステップアップとなれば、サン=ジロワーズでのキャリアも最高の締めくくりとなりそうだ。
