クリスタル・パレスのGKディーン・ヘンダーソン(27)。イングランド代表復帰のチャンスが巡ってきたようだ。イギリス『ミラー』が伝えている。

24日、今月の代表ウィークでブラジル代表(23日/0●1)およびベルギー代表(26日)と国際親善試合を戦うイングランド代表は、DFカイル・ウォーカー&DFハリー・マグワイアとともに、GKサム・ジョンストンが負傷で途中離脱すると発表した。

ジョンストンはクリスタル・パレスの正GKで、イングランド代表にはGK陣3番手ながらも定着。まさに今夏のユーロ2024選出が当落線上なわけだが、『ミラー』によると、痛めた肘の状態が良くなく、長期離脱の可能性も排除できないという。
そうなると、C・パレスでジョンストンの控えに甘んじるD・ヘンダーソンに出番が。2人ともマンチェスター・ユナイテッドの下部組織出身という因果が奇妙だが、ともかくまずは今季終了まで後者がC・パレスのゴールマウスを守る見通しに。

D・ヘンダーソンは2020年にイングランド代表デビューも、ユナイテッドでGKダビド・デ・ヘアとの定位置争いに勝てず、次第にフェードアウト。カタールW杯直前の22年9月に一度復帰も、結局本大会は行けず、再び遠ざかることとなった。
ジョンストンの今季絶望も考えられるなか、D・ヘンダーソンにとっては自身の価値を証明すべき機会に。その相手は、2月の就任から自身を一度も起用していないC・パレスのオリバー・グラスナー監督、そしてイングランド代表のガレス・サウスゲイト監督だ。

言葉を選ばなくてよいなら“自身家”、ユナイテッドで被った不遇を在籍中から「犯罪的」と表現し、亀裂を残してC・パレスへ去ったD・ヘンダーソン。ユーロという大舞台を視野に入れた今回の機会をモノにできないなら、それまでかもしれない。

サウスゲイト監督はジョンストン離脱に伴い、バーンリーのGKジェームス・トラッフォード(21)を追加招集(初招集)。また、レンジャーズのGKジャック・バトランド(31)も好調で、5年ぶりの代表復帰が取り沙汰されている。ライバルも多いD・ヘンダーソンだが、果たして。

次回(6月)の代表メンバー発表は、ユーロ本大会に臨む26名の発表だ。

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】

イングランド代表が新ユニフォームを発表、赤ではなくなったアウェイは賛否分かれる「初めてじゃないか?」「そのチョイスはなしだ」

イングランド代表のユニフォームが変? ファンが気づいた異変はベテランキットマンのまさかのミス…「間違ってしまった」

相手が恐れる右手…ストライカーの完成形と呼ばれた男、アラン・シアラー
