オーストラリア女子代表がこのインターナショナルウイークを連敗で終えた。パリ・オリンピックアジア2次予選のグループAを首位で通過し、最終予選に駒を進めたオーストラリア女子代表ことマチルダズ。現在のFIFAランキングこそ11位だが、アジアでは頭1つ抜けた強豪で、なでしこジャパンも対戦を回避する術をとったほどだ。
そのマチルダズは現地時間1日と5日に、カナダ女子代表との国際親善試合アウェイ2連戦を決行。初戦を0-5、2戦目を0-1で落とし、連敗で代表活動を終えることとなった。
初戦ではビルドアップのミスをさらわれて先制点を献上。ゲームを支配される時間も長く、チャーリー・ルール(ブライトン&ホーヴ・アルビオン)やサラ・ハンター(パリFC)は代表初出場、キャップの少ない選手が多く先発したこともあってか、最終ラインの不安定さが目立った。
2戦目はW杯メンバーを中心にスタートしたものの、セットプレーからクロエ・ラカス(アーセナル)にゴールを許し、攻撃面でも2試合連続の無得点に終わった。
来年2月24日、28日に控える最終予選の相手は本田美登里監督率いるウズベキスタン女子代表。FIFAランキングは50位で、順当に考えれば優位性は揺るがないが、何が起こるかわからないのがフットボール、ましてやアジア予選だ。

かつて千葉でもプレーしたオーストラリア代表DFミリガンが代表引退…ポステコグルー監督へも感謝
オーストラリアサッカー連盟(FFA)は9日、MFマーク・ミリガン(34)がオーストラリア代表からの引退を申し入れたことを発表した。 FFAによると、9日にオーストラリア代表のチームメイトやスタッフに引退の決断が伝えられたとのこと。代表通算80キャップで6ゴールを記録したミリガンはワールドカップ4大会でメンバーに選ばれていた。 ミリガンは「この14年間でサッカルーズ(オーストラリア代表の愛称)に関わることは特別なことだった」と語り、「その間、国を代表できたことは、夢見たものを超越しています」とコメントした。 また、代表キャリアについては「常に順風満帆ではなかった」と語り、「オーストラリアのスーパースターだらけのチームに入ることはいつも難しかった。ただ、チャンスを与えられた」と代表招集当初を回想。「オーストラリアの黄金世代の選手たちと関わり、彼らから学んだことが、僕にとって感謝してもしきれないプレゼントとなった」と、レジェンドたちとのプレーから得たものが大きかったと語った。 様々な監督の下でプレーしたミリガンは「素晴らしい監督の下でプレーできて幸運だった」とコメント。「最初に僕をサッカルーズのメンバーに入れてくれたフース・ヒディング、僕の夢を叶えてくれたピム・ファーベークに感謝します」と自身を代表に導いた2人の名将に感謝した。 また、「最初にキャプテンマークを渡してくれたホルガー・オジェックにも感謝します。ワールドカップで初めて起用してくれたアンジェ・ポステコグルーに感謝します。アジアカップ決勝でプレーする機会をくれ、アンジェはクラブと代表の両方で僕に色々と教えてくれた」と、現在は横浜F・マリノスの指揮を執るポステコグルー監督への感謝も伝えた。 近年は監督が多く変更していたオーストラリアだが「短い間だったが、信頼を寄せてくれた、ベルト・ファン・マルヴァイク、マルク・ファン・ボメルにも感謝します。そしてグラハム・アーノルドも、僕を1年間キャプテンに指名してくれました」と、自身が関わった全ての監督に感謝の気持ちを述べている。 ミリガンは、ノーザン・スピリットやブラックタウン・シティ、シドニーFC、ニューカッスル・ジェッツなど国内のチームでプレー。2009年1月に中国の上海申花へ加入すると、2010年1月にはジェフユナイテッド千葉に加入。2シーズンを過ごし、2012年1月にメルボルン・ビクトリーへ移籍した。 その後は、UAEのバーニヤースは、サウジアラビアのアル・アハリ、スコットランドのハイバーニアンでプレーし、今年7月からリーグ1(イングランド3部)のサウスエンド・ユナイテッドでプレーしている。 2019.12.09 16:50 Mon

豪州FWに「英語を話せないふりをした」とユニ交換拒否揶揄されたジルーがナイスな反応!
