現在ウズベキスタンで行われているAFC U23アジアカップ。準々決勝では日韓戦が行われた。

2つ下の世代の日本と対戦する韓国は、MFイ・ガンイン(マジョルカ/スペイン)を中心としたメンバーに。ディフェンディングチャンピオンとしても負けられない一戦だったが、日本は鈴木唯人(清水エスパルス)の2ゴールなどで3-0で勝利を収めた。

アジアカップで準決勝に韓国が進めなかったのは初めてのこと。さらに連覇が潰え、2つ下の世代の日本に負けたことなど、失望させることが多い試合となってしまった。

ファン・ソンホン監督は試合後に謝罪。敗戦は自分の責任だとし、日本は思っていたよりも強かったと語った。

「遅い時間まで見てもらった国民の皆さんを失望させてしまい、申し訳なく思う」

「メンバー構成、試合への準備、モチベーションなど、全ての面で不足していた。理由はともかく、監督の責任だ」

赤地に白のホームは「霜降り肉みたい」韓国代表の新ユニフォームはアウェイの方が人気に「アウェイは素晴らしいね」
