ヘルタ・ベルリンの元ドイツ代表MFサミ・ケディラ(34)が19日、今季限りでの現役引退を発表した。

シュツットガルトでプロデビューを飾ったケディラは、2006-07シーズンにブンデスリーガ優勝を経験。2010年夏にレアル・マドリーへ移籍し、レアル・マドリーでは2013-14シーズンにチャンピオンズリーグ優勝を経験した他、ラ・リーガ優勝とコパ・デル・レイ優勝をそれぞれ1度経験した。

そして2015年夏に移籍したユベントスでは5度のセリエA優勝を経験。3度のコッパ・イタリア優勝を経験した。
77試合に出場したドイツ代表では3度ワールドカップに出場し、2014年ブラジルW杯では優勝していた。

クラブチームと代表チームで数々のタイトルに恵まれたケディラだが、度重なる負傷に悩まされていたのも事実。引退を決めたケディラはメディアに対して次のようにコメントしている。
｢かなり難しい決断だったが、唯一の正しい決断だと思う。15年間のプロ生活でそれなりの足跡を残せたと思う。クラブチームや代表でのプレーは僕にとって全てが挑戦だった。今は少し平穏な生活がしたいが、すぐに忙しい生活に戻るだろう｣

｢引退を決めたのはここ数週間のことだ。自分の身体と相談して決めた。最後は直感だった。もう一度ファンの前でプレーしたかったが、引退の決断は正しいと思う｣

なお、引退後に関してケディラはサッカー界に携わることを明言している。

「すご」「経歴の凄さを感じる」トルコキャンプ中の広島にポドルスキが登場! スキッベ監督の意外な繋がりが分かる再会が話題「改めてすごい方が監督をしているんだな」

「目が死んでる」意地の勝利もW杯敗退のドイツ、ハヴァーツがコスタリカ戦のMOMに選ばれるも虚無の表情「そりゃこうなる」

批判も受けたドイツ代表ユニフォームに問題…ナチスの「SS」に類似との指摘を受け「4」のフォントを変更、アディダスは購入中止に

ドイツ代表史上初の解任…日本代表が引導を渡したフリック元監督は123年の歴史で初
