『今日の誕生日は誰だ!』本日、3月20日は日本代表としてワールドカップ3大会で守護神を務めたGK川島永嗣だ。

埼玉県出身の川島は、浦和東高校から2001年に大宮アルディージャへと入団。大宮入団前には浦和レッズのセレクションに落ちていた過去もある。

2003年まで大宮でプレーすると、2004年に名古屋グランパスへと移籍。2007年に川崎フロンターレへと移籍すると、レギュラーポジションを掴み2008年からは日本代表に選出されるようになる。

2010年にベルギーのリールセに渡り海外挑戦をスタート。その後は、スタンダール・リエージュ、ダンディー・ユナイテッド、メスと渡り歩き、2018年にリーグ・アンのメスストラスブールへ移籍。

川島の特徴と言えば「PKストップ」だろう。日本代表としてもこれまで数多くのPKをストップしており、その実力は欧州でも認められている。また、2018年1月にはリーグ・アンで偉大な記録を樹立。過去10年でリーグ戦で3連続PKストップを成し遂げた最初の選手になった。

「名前のご縁もあり…」町野修斗のために漫画『シュート!』の大島司さんが描いたイラストが話題!「すげえ」「これは熱い」
