成績不振で解任されたディーン・スミス前監督に代わり、今月11日に就任したジェラード監督。初陣となった20日のブライトン戦では、終盤に2ゴールを挙げる劇的勝利で白星を飾った。
そして、27日にはクリスタル・パレス戦に臨み、アウェイで1-2の勝利。これで就任2連勝を収めることになった。
アストン・ビラにおいて、ジェラード監督はプレミアリーグ創設以降13人目の指揮官だが、過去に初陣を白星で飾ったのはジョン・グレゴリー氏とジェラール・ウリエ氏の2人のみ。さらに、連勝に至ったのは前者のみで、この度41歳指揮官は、1998年2月以来クラブ史上2人目の快挙を成し遂げた。

アストン・ビラがスタジアム改修をスタート、ユーロ2028の会場となり5万人収容に変貌へ

乱入男がラリアット! アストン・ビラMFグリーリッシュが試合中に襲撃される
