カナダ代表の選手たちがユニフォームのサプライヤーであるナイキに抗議の意を示している。カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)の開幕までは2カ月を切った中、9月には各国が大会前最後の活動を行っている。
今回の活動では、W杯のメンバー入りする選手がどうなるのかなど気になる点が多々ある中、新ユニフォームのお披露目という観点でも各国のファンが注目している。
W杯に向けて日本代表も新ユニフォームを発表。「ORIGAMI」のコンセプトは好評で、世界でも高く評価を受けている。
一方で、ナイキ製のユニフォームはどの国でもひどい評価を受けており、あまり好意的には受け入れられていない状況となっている。
1986年のメキシコ大会以来、9大会ぶりにW杯に出場することとなるカナダ。ホスト国であるカタール代表との親善試合を行い、0-2で勝利を収めていた。
しかし、この試合の2点目を決めたジョナサン・デイビッドがゴールパフォーマンスで右胸に手を当て、ナイキのマークを意図的に隠すパフォーマンスを披露。これは抗議の意を示しているという。
その理由は1つ。カナダ代表は、W杯に向けたユニフォームを制作してもらえていないのだ。

「意味が分からない」カナダ代表の新ユニフォームはナイキのロゴが目立ちすぎ?他国と異なる仕様に「本当にがっかり」「冗談だろ?」
