5年ぶりドイツ代表入りのゲッツェが喜び「みんなのおかげ」

カタール・ワールドカップのドイツ代表メンバーに選ばれたフランクフルトのMFマリオ・ゲッツェが喜びを語っている。

10日にカタールW杯に臨むドイツ代表メンバーが発表された。スカッドは概ね順当な顔ぶれとなったが、ティモ・ヴェルナーやマルコ・ロイスはケガで見送られることになった。

その中でサプライズの一つとなったのはゲッツェの招集だ。上述のヴェルナーやロイスの欠場による繰り上げ選考の可能性もあるだろうが、それでも2017年11月以来5年ぶりの代表復帰は、ほとんど誰も予想していなかった。

ドイツ代表のハンジ・フリック監督は「マリオは素晴らしいフットボーラーだ。ここ数試合を見れば、彼が高いレベルにあることがわかる。体調も整っており、1週間で3試合フル出場できるほどだ」と絶賛し、選んだ理由を説明した。

そして、本人も感慨にふけり、喜ぶと共に周囲への感謝を強調した。

「久しぶりだよ…。今回選ばれたことは今までのハードワークが報われたような感じだ。だけど、妻や家族、素晴らしいチームメイトがいなければ実現しなかったことだ。サポートしてくれてありがとう」

ゲッツェとW杯といえば、2014年大会のファイナルでアルゼンチン代表相手に決勝ゴールを決めた活躍が印象的だが、今回は果たして。

「理解することができない」レアルMFクロースも…児童ポルノ違反の元ドイツ代表DFへの判決に怒り
