イングランド代表のガレス・サウスゲイト監督が、ユーロ2024の候補メンバーを発表。落選した2人について言及した。

21日、イングランドサッカー協会(FA)はユーロ2024に向けたイングランド代表候補メンバーを発表した。

26名の本大会メンバーに対し、33名と大所帯となった中、これまでイングランド代表を支えてきたMFジョーダン・ヘンダーソン(アヤックス)、ストライカーとして活躍したFWマーカス・ラッシュフォード(マンチェスター・ユナイテッド)が候補にも入らなかった。
サウスゲイト監督はメンバー発表会見で2人について言及。ヘンダーソンについては難しい決断だったとした。

「彼は素晴らしいプロフェッショナルであり、決断するのはとても難しかった」
「彼は逃すことになるだろう。並外れたキャラクターであり、素晴らしい人間だ」

「決定的な要因は、彼が最後のキャンプで負ったケガだ。彼は5週間欠場したが、それ以来は試合での強度を発揮できていない」

ヘンダーソンは昨シーズン限りでリバプールを退団し、サウジアラビアのアル・イテファクへと移籍も輝けず、1月にアヤックスへと完全移籍。それでもサウスゲイト監督は招集を続けてきたが、3月の代表活動ではプレーせず、さらに負傷。その後チームでも欠場していたが復帰後のパフォーマンスが良くなかったという。

また、ラッシュフォードについても言及。こちらも難しい決断だったとした。

「難しい決断だった。我々がこれまでやってきたことの重要な部分を担ってきた非常に優れた選手たちのことを話している」

「マーカスだが、ピッチの同じエリアにいる選手たちは、より良いシーズンを過ごせたと感じている。それはとても単純なことだ」

ラッシュフォードは昨シーズンは30ゴールを記録していたにも関わらず、今シーズンはたったの8ゴール。調子が上がらないままシーズンを終えており、他にも良いストライカーたちがいるから当然の結果だとした。

「彼が連絡しないようにと…」 ホワイトの代表復帰拒否続く、暫定監督が明らかに

サウスゲイト元イングランド代表監督が大英帝国勲章最高位サーの称号を授与

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】

FIFA公式がロシアW杯ベストイレブンを発表! ヤングやパウリーニョら“クセがすごい”選出も…

トゥヘル新体制のイングランド代表が発表! 売り出し中のルイス=スケリー、32歳のバーンが初招集…ラッシュフォードやヘンダーソンが復帰【2026年W杯欧州予選】
