敗戦のイングランド代表だが、ガレス・サウスゲイト監督は前向きに捉えている。イギリス『スカイ・スポーツ』が伝えた。

23日、ウェンブリー・スタジアムで行われた国際親善試合でブラジル代表を迎え撃ったイングランド。主砲FWハリー・ケインをはじめ、多くの選手を負傷で欠く中、サウスゲイト監督はフル代表デビューのFWアンソニー・ゴードンを先発させるなど、比較的フレッシュなメンバーでこの一戦に臨んだ。

セットプレーを中心にゴールに迫ったイングランドだが、DFカイル・ウォーカーの負傷交代もあった前半はゴールレスで終了。後半はMFコビー・メイヌーをフル代表デビューさせるなどテコ入れを図ったが、終盤に失点を喫し、0-1で敗れた。
試合後、「サッカーの試合で負けるのは好きではない」と語ったサウスゲイト監督だが、内容は悲観せず。親善試合で戦力を底上げできた点に目を向けた。

「イングランド代表としてほとんどプレーしたことのない選手たちの個々のパフォーマンスは非常に優れていたと思う。常連の選手たちも非常に良かった」
「我々は相手と同じくらいゴールに迫ったが、差が生まれたのは一瞬だった」

また、常連だったMFカルヴァン・フィリップスを招集外とし、MFジョーダン・ヘンダーソンがベンチ外となった中盤にも言及。層の薄さを懸念していたようだ。

「人数が不足している。リーグ戦で6番の位置でプレーする中盤の選手は多くない。だからこそコビー(・メイヌー)を迎え入れたんだ」

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】

元ユナイテッドSDがFAに復帰…新設のチーフ・フットボール・オフィサーに就任

元マンチェスター・ユナイテッドのスポーツディレクター(SD)、ダン・アシュワース氏が、イングランドサッカー協会(FA)に復帰することになった。 FAは14日、アシュワース氏が新設のチーフ・フットボール・オフィサーに就任すると発表。同職ではイングランド代表の男女チームと緊密に連携していくことになるという。 昨年12月にユナイテッドのSDをわずか5カ月で退任したアシュワース氏。それ以前にはブライトン&ホーヴ・アルビオン、ニューカッスルで手腕を発揮しており、国内外のクラブからのオファーも想定されていたが、2018年まで6年間に渡って勤務していたFAに復帰することになった。 アシュワース氏は、セント・ジョージズ・パークの再開発を監督し、2028年に開催されるユーロ2028の共催に向け、競技施設とピッチの改善を目指す。 さらに、この新役職は、男子フットボールのテクニカルディレクターであるジョン・マクダーモット氏と緊密に連携するとともに、FAの最高経営責任者(CEO)であるマーク・ブリンガム氏とも連携する。 また、イングランド国内の地元出身のコーチの育成にも携わる予定だという。 2025.05.15 16:30 Thu

FIFA公式がロシアW杯ベストイレブンを発表! ヤングやパウリーニョら“クセがすごい”選出も…
