ミッドウィークにはマンチェスター・シティをホームに迎えて勝利。今シーズン上位争いをしていることが偶然ではないことを証明する勝利となった。

ホームで圧巻の14連勝中のアストン・ビラは、開始7分にジョン・マッギンが豪快なゴールを決めて先制。首位に立つアーセナルがその後は押し返すも、ゴールを許さず。1-0で勝利し、クラブ新記録となるホーム15連勝を達成した。

エメリ監督は試合を終えてファンに感謝。1週間で昨季の1位と2位に連勝を収めたことを喜んだ。
