フランス代表のディディエ・デシャン監督が歴史的大勝を振り返った。フランス『レキップ』が伝えた。

6戦全勝ですでにユーロ2024予選突破を決めているフランスは、18日のグループB第9節でジブラルタル代表と対戦。FWキリアン・ムバッペやFWアントワーヌ・グリーズマン、DFテオ・エルナンデスらが先発した中、初招集の17歳MFウォーレン・ザイール=エメリもスタメンに名を連ねた。試合は立ち上がりからフランスが2点を奪う展開となり、16分にはザイール=エメリに代表デビュー弾が誕生。その後、ジブラルタル側に退場者が出て、数的優位になると、前半だけで計7ゴールを奪い、最終的にはチーム歴代最多の14ゴールで圧勝した。

デシャン監督はこの勝利を振り返り、途中からこれまでの記録だった10得点を上回ることが目標になったと明かしている。

「試合に勝ったことはさておき、準備の段階で我々は2つの選択肢があると自分たちに言い聞かせていた。良いプレーをして勝つか、とても良いプレーをして勝つかだ」

「前半はとても良かったからそのまま続けられて良かった。(ハーフタイム中)選手たちは私に(最多)記録は何点だったかと尋ねてきた。彼らはそれ(10点)を上回るために必要なことをやった。そして大幅に越えた。たとえ相手が表面上弱く、10人に減ったチームだったとしても、甘く見てはならない」

「このスコアを特別なものにするため、我々は全力を尽くした。これがユーロ本戦のシードを得ること以上のチームの意欲だった。いつだってより高いレベルのことが求められる。選手たちがほぼ毎回こういったチャレンジに挑むのは素晴らしいことだ」

また、デシャン監督は代表初ゴールを決めたザイール=エメリにも言及。ゴール時に負傷し、交代したことがこの試合唯一のマイナス点だと述べた。

「この試合を糧にしようとは思っていないが、1つの節目であり、記録でもある。キリアン(・ムバッペ)のハットトリックやウォーレン(・ザイール=エメリ)の初ゴールという素晴らしいゴールもあった。マイナス点を探すつもりはないが、唯一の問題がウォーレンの負傷なのは明らかだ」

「鶏デカすぎ」「ケンタッキーとのコラボか?」フランス代表の新ユニフォームにはビッグサイズのロゴが採用「巨大すぎない?」
