マンチェスター・ユナイテッドのU-20アルゼンチン代表FWアレハンドロ・ガルナチョ(18)が背番号「7」をご所望しているようだ。

ユナイテッドとの契約を2028年6月まで延長したことが28日に発表されたばかりのガルナチョ。ここ数カ月はレアル・マドリーやドルトムントからの関心が報じられていた新星なだけに、ユナイテッドとしてはこれもひとつの“補強”となった。

そんなガルナチョは負傷離脱からようやく練習に戻ったなか、ファーストチーム昇格を果たした今シーズンは公式戦29試合の出場で4得点5アシストを記録。今後は昨秋に契約解除となったポルトガル代表FWクリスティアーノ・ロナウド(現在アル・ナスル)の足跡を辿りたいと考えているようだ。

以前からC・ロナウドへの憧れや尊敬を公言していたなか、イギリス『ミラー』は、背番号「49」を背負うガルナチョが空き番の背番号「7」を来シーズンから着用することを夢見ていると主張。延長延長が発表された直後、ガルナチョはファンによる「ガルナチョに7番のシャツを贈るべきだ」というツイッター投稿にいいねを押したという。

ユナイテッドの背番号「7」と言えば、故ジョージ・ベスト氏やデイビッド・ベッカム氏らが背負ってきた誉高きもの。しかし、近年はアレクシス・サンチェス(現在マルセイユ)やメンフィス・デパイ(現在アトレティコ・マドリー)らが着用し、期待に応えられなかったケースがほとんどだ。C・ロナウドも2度目の加入後はクラブとの摩擦を起こした末に契約解除に至った。

このように、あまり縁起が良くない数字になりつつあるユナイテッドの背番号「7」だが、18歳のガルナチョは華々しい選手キャリアの構築に向けて希望に満ち溢れている模様。現在は公式戦復帰に向けてチーム練習に合流しているとのことだ。

元ユナイテッドSDがFAに復帰…新設のチーフ・フットボール・オフィサーに就任

「高価な食べ物はない」ギネス記録樹立、C・ロナウドのあの肉体の秘訣を専属シェフが明かす

「絶対に謝らない」ハーランド父に復讐したロイ・キーンが“報復”タックルを否定
