アーセナルのイングランド女子代表FWベス・ミードのキックに賛辞が相次いでいる。

ミードはイングランド代表として母国での女子欧州選手権(女子ユーロ)臨み、初優勝に貢献。6得点5アシストで得点王にも輝いた。

女子バロンドール2022の筆頭ともされ、推す声も多数上がっていたが、惜しくもバルセロナのスペイン女子代表MFアレクシア・プテジャスに次ぐ2位であった。

17日にパリでの授賞式に出席したアタッカーは、その足でリヨンへ移動した。19日に行われたUEFA女子チャンピオンズリーグ(UWCL)グループC第1節で、ディフェンディングチャンピオンとの一戦に先発出場。2-1と、アーセナルのリードで迎えた前半のアディショナルタイムに見事な一撃を沈めて見せた。

ペナルティアーク左寄りに掛かるような位置でFKを得ると、短い助走から意表を突いた低弾道のシュートを選択。強烈なライナーは同じくバロンドール候補の名手、GKクリスティアネ・エンドレルの手を弾いてネットを揺らした。

実力を示す見事な一発には、ファンからも「明らかにバロンドールに値する」、「彼女に相応しいバロンドールを与えてあげてください」、「まじでこのレベル…」、「私の女王を見て!」などの声が寄せられている。

また、「来年のバロンドールに向けて履歴書をまとめる」、「バロンドール2023!!」と、来季の受賞を心待ちにする気の早いファンも。期待に応えるように、ミードは69分にもこの日2点目を奪う素晴らしい活躍を見せた。

アーセナルは敵地で前回覇者を5-1と粉砕。リーグ戦無敗の勢いを、UWCLにもつなげている。なお、なでしこジャパンのFW岩渕真奈はベンチ入りを果たすも、出番なしに終わっている。

ヴェンゲル、スアレスへの“4000万1ポンド”オファーを反省「馬鹿げていた…」

2018年までアーセナルで長期政権を築いたアーセン・ヴェンゲル氏が、リバプールから引き抜きを狙ったウルグアイ代表FWルイス・スアレスに関するエピソードについて語った。イギリス『ミラー』などが伝えている。今夏にバルセロナからアトレティコ・マドリーに移籍したスアレスは、2011年1月から2014年7月までリバプールに所属。公式戦133試合に出場し82得点を記録するなど、絶対的なエースとして君臨していた。そのリバプールのエースの獲得に向け、アーセナルが動いたのが2013年の夏。当時、チャンピオンズリーグ(CL)から遠ざかるなど、低迷が続いていたクラブからの退団の意思を示していたスアレスに関して、ヴェンゲル氏はCL出場権を切り札のひとつとして獲得が可能と踏んでいた。ただ、同じプレミアリーグのライバルへの売却を望まないリバプールの徹底抗戦が予想されていた。ただ、当時スアレスには4000万ポンド(約54億8000万円)の契約解除金が設定されていると報じられており、アーセナルはこの金額に1ポンド(約136円)を上乗せした“4000万1ポンド”のオファーを掲示し、エースの引き抜きを図った。やや非常識ともいえるこのオファーは物議を醸し、リバプールのオーナーであるジョン・ヘンリー氏は自身の『ツイッター』で「彼らはエミレーツで何か(薬のようなものを)吸っているのか?」と呟くなど激高。また、実際に前述の契約解除条項は存在しておらず、リバプール側が交渉を拒否したこともあり、スアレス獲得は実現しなかった。ただ、10月13日に販売が開始されたヴェンゲル氏の自叙伝『My Life in Red and White: My Autobiography』によると、同氏は契約解除条項が存在しないことを理解した上で前述のオファーを掲示していたという。そして、自身の振る舞いを反省している。「2013-14シーズンにスアレスを獲得したいと思っていた。我々はプレーヤー本人、代理人と合意に達していた。そして、彼の代理人は4000万ポンド以上のオファーがあれば、リバプールは彼を手放さなければならない条項があると主張していた」「しかし、リバプール内部の軽率な振る舞いのおかげで、そんな条項が存在しないということも理解していた。その事実を確かめるために、4000万1ポンドのオファーを出した。これについては、馬鹿げていると思われただろうし、私自身も同意する」「リバプールはスアレスを売る気がなかったし、彼らにはプレーヤーを残すだけの(金銭的)余裕があった。さらに、既にバルセロナからのオファーが差し迫っていた」リバプールはアーセナルからのオファーを拒絶した1年後に、スアレスをバルセロナに6500万ポンド(約89億円)で売却している。ヴェンゲル氏からすると、交渉上の駆け引きのつもりだったと思われるが、ビッグネームの獲得を逃しただけでなく、相手方にばらされてひんしゅくまで買う苦い経験だったようだ。 2020.10.15 17:03 Thu
